This study examines the impact of utilizing Personal Learning Environments on enhancing Digital Investigative Competences in undergraduate students at the National University of Piura. Employing a pre-experimental design, the research evaluated students both prior to and subsequent to their participation in a virtual Pedagogical Program titled “Construction of Personal Learning Environments.” A self-assessment sheet gauging digital investigative skills served as the research instrument. The post-test findings indicated that 97% of the students achieved a medium level of competence, while 2.99% exhibited a high level. None fell within the low proficiency category. The research analyzes and reflects on the contents of university educational models in order to identify the conceptions that support them, the similarities and differences in doctrinal and pedagogical philosophical approaches that animate the academic life of universities and if they respond to the requirements of virtual education that is applied today in universities across the country. To meet the objective, a documentary technique methodology is used that is based on the review of articles and books that deal with university educational models. Introduction: Formative research at the university uses didactic strategies supported by information and communication technologies (ICT) to facilitate the development of research skills. Objective: To describe a formative research experience that used Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) for the acquisition of digital research skills, as well as to identify the tools and activities involved in the construction of these environments. Method: A qualitative-quantitative research approach was applied using a documentary-descriptive design. The intentional, non-probabilistic sample consisted of 79 students who took courses in 2022 in the Faculties of Social Sciences and Education, Sciences, and Industrial Engineering at the National University of Piura.
