Objective: To determine the sociodemographic risk factors associated with suicidal risk in the Peruvian population. Methods: An analytical and cross-sectional study was performed based on data from 24,000 violent deaths registered at the national death system (SINADEF) in 2021. Variables tested were suicidal death, other violent causes of death, sex, age group, geographic location, degree of education, and civil state. Chi-square and Cramer’s V tests were used to evaluate associations and crude and adjusted odd ratios through binary logistic regression; a p-value <0.05 and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results: Most of the people who died of suicide were ≤39 years old, lived on the coast, had no university degree, and had a couple at the time of death. Multivariate analysis in men identified living on the coast (OR=1.307; IC95%=1.185-1.441) and university degree (OR=1....

This study aimed to evaluate the association between Internet use with geographical area and mother tongue in the Peruvian population. A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was carried out. The information was obtained from the National Household Survey belonging to the National Statistics and Informatics Institute, which included 15,360 people from different regions of the country. The association analysis was carried out using the Chi square test, the intensity of association was carried out with the Phi and Cramer's V correlation tests considering an alpha value of less than 0.05. Data processing and analysis was carried out with the SPSS 25 program. It was found that the Sierra and Selva regions had less Internet use than the Coast and Metropolitan Lima regions (p=0.000). Likewise, the use of native mother tongues was associated with less Internet use than in people ...

Helicobacter pylori infection has a high prevalence in Peru and in the world and is highly associated with gastrointestinal ulcer and gastric cancer. The objective of this research is to determine the prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori in an urban population that attends a medical consultation for the first time due to gastrointestinal symptoms. Descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study carried out in a population of both sexes and all ages in the district of Villa el Salvador. A 74.3% prevalence of H. Pylori is considered, with a higher prevalence in the intermediate adult and older adult age groups (75%). Likewise, there was a greater attendance to medical consultation on the part of the female sex (n = 208). It is concluded that there is a high prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori infection in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms.

Objective: To establish the cut-off point of the abdominal perimeter for overweight and obesity adjusted to the body mass index in adults of the Peruvian population. Material and methods: Observational, analytical, retrospective and cross-sectional study based on data from the national demographic and family health survey (ENDES). There was no sample calculation because the entire population was analyzed. The variables were: sex, abdominal perimeter and body mass index (BMI). Results: With an area under the curve of 0.954 in women and 0.952 for men, an abdominal perimeter of 86 centimeters was established as the cut-off point for overweight in women, with a sensitivity (S) of 90%, and a specificity (E) 89% and for obesity an abdominal perimeter of 95 centimeters (S=89%, E=85%). In men, an abdominal perimeter of 89 centimeters (S=87%, E=87%) was established as a cut-off point to determine...

Objective: To develop a simplified anthropometric equation of total body water based on abdominal circumference and age based on Watson's formula. Material and methods: Analytical and cross-sectional study, based on data from the 2022 national demographic health survey (population=32,066). The variables were: total body water, age, sex, abdominal perimeter. Neural networks (multilayer perceptron), multiple linear regression, and Spearman correlation were used to compare the results with the 2021 survey population (population=31,966). Results: The multilayer perceptron had a relative error of 0.17 and 0.12 in women and men, respectively. The regression equation in women was: 8.083 + (0.308*abdominal circumference) + (-0.084*age). In men: 12.132 + (0.338*abdominal circumference) + (-0.166*age). The correlation of both equations was compared with a control group (ENDES-2021), finding very s...

Introduction: the presence or absence of ST elevation determines the prognostic and therapeutic approach to acute coronary syndrome. Objective: to predict, using neural networks, the presence or absence of ST-elevation according to symptoms and signs of acute coronary syndrome. Material and methods: analytical and cross-sectional study based on a database of 106 patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome in a Peruvian hospital. A series of symptoms and signs were analyzed prior to performing the electrocardiogram. Multilayer perceptron-type neural networks were used, from which the classification table of correct forecasts, the predictive capacity of the model, as well as the normalized importance of the predictor variables were evaluated. Results: The neural network had overall percentages of correct predictions in training and testing of 93.40% and 93.30%, respectively. The area und...

Introduction: The evaluation of the homeostatic model gives results close to the gold standard (hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp). Objective: To develop an equation to determine the homeostatic model of insulin resistance. Material and methods: Analytical and cross-sectional study of secondary databases of 2004 Venezuelan adults and another of 4363 Mexicans. The variables were: homeostatic model of insulin resistance (HOMA-2), basal insulin, basal glucose. Multiple linear regression, scatter plot, and student t test were used. Results: The regression equation was -0.694+(0.138*basal insulin)+(0.009*basal glucose), where HOMA2-IR increases 0.138 for each U/mL of insulin and increases 0.009 for each mg/dL of basal glucose. The R2 value was 0.983 (Venezuelan database), indicating that 98% of the change in HOMA2-IR can be explained by the model based on basal insulin and glucose. The equati...

The variables were: regenerating protein of the islets of Langerhans 1B and 1A (REG1B; REG1A), hyaluronan receptor 1 of the lymphatic endothelium (LYVE-1), Trefoil factor-1 (TFF1), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9). Spearman correlation, multiple linear regression and scatter plot were used. Results: In healthy subjects (n=183), REG1B showed significant and positive correlations with LYVE1 (rho=0.459,p<0.001), TFF1 (rho=0.549,p<0.001) and REG1A (rho=0.780,p<0.001). There was no significant correlation with CA19-9 (rho=0.153,p=0.144). In chronic pancreatiti...

There is a perception that women visit the general practitioner's office more frequently than men. This study aims to determine the differences between men and women regarding the frequency of healthcare visits to the general medicine service in private medical centers. The sample consisting of 1,144 adults over 18 years of age from the district of Villa El Salvador was collected from July 2020 to July 2021. It was found that 777 (67.9 %) women and 467 (32.1 %) men attended an appointment. Therefore, it is concluded that women visit the general practitioner's office more frequently than men. It is necessary to assess what factors affect this difference and whether there is any epidemiological and public health impact.
