The implementation of interculturalism is difficult at the educational level, given the Western roots of the academic world. The objective of this work was to analyze the role of the social sciences, disciplines originating from a Eurocentric world, in the construction of this political project. The methodology used is qualitative. For the analysis, three cases from professional practice were selected in which social scientists encountered information that does not fit the canons of scientificity. A discursive analysis of the cases was conducted. The result was the need for researchers to convert primary information to fit the dominant parameters. It was concluded that there are constant power mechanisms in the practice of dealing with information that is not anthropocentric, objective, or materialistic, generating significant limitations for the construction of interculturalism.

Faced with globalization and its impacts on the promotion of trade, local consumers gained access to international brands and entrepreneurs were able to offer their goods and services in other climes, translating into an economic benefit. Unfortunately, many artisanal businesses, such as the cheesemakers of Cuauhtémoc in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, do not enjoy these same effects, as they fail to implement technical processes or marketing strategies and their commercial vulnerability increases as a result. This study employed Michael Porter’s diamond model to assess this industry in terms of its competitiveness. The research is mixed: 26 cheesemakers were sampled, three experts in the field were interviewed, and the data was analyzed using SPSS software. It is concluded that the cheese cluster presents weaknesses in the relationships with suppliers and in the marketing networks, w...

Biodiversity surveys among contrasting sites get normal, and lognormal distributed data used for quantifying how Climate Change affects forests around the world. Yet most biologists are familiarized with the normal distribution, while few discuss why the lognormal distribution of relative frequencies of species is so common in many communities of living beings. We aim to add more researchers into such a discussion. Both normal and lognormal have mean and extreme values –which is consistent with the Central Limit Theorem. Such a theorem is valid when the data come from random processes, and when the sampling excercise of collecting the data has been stocastic and representative. According to Steve Hubbell’s Unified Neutral Theory of Biodiversity and Biogeography, random birth, death, migration and speciation in a community –and from the surrounding metacomunity are enough for genera...

Objective: To explore the perceived parental rearing behavior in adolescents diagnosed with an eating disorder, and to identify eventual differences with altered eating and self-injurious behaviors. Material and methods: A total of 45 adolescents diagnosed with some eating disorder (11 diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, 23 with bulimia nervosa and 11 with binge eating disorder), recruited from the outpatient and hospitalization areas of the Juan N Navarro Children’s Psychiatric Hospital, were included. Results: It was found that the greater the memories of favoritism (r = 0.41, p-value = 0.005) or rejection (r = 0.36, p-value = 0.016) by the father, the higher the scores on the Eating Attitude Scale. Differences were also found in the mother’s warmth dimension, between the adolescents who presented self-injuries (mean = 39.6, de = 11.3) and those who did not present them (mean = 47.4, ...
