En este artículo analizamos los determinantes del consumo de drogas de diseño entre estudiantes de 14 a 18 años. El trabajo lo concretamos en la sociedad española con la Encuesta sobre Drogas a la Población Escolar (1994-2006). Nuestros resultados evidencian que el consumo de estas sustancias no se reduce. Los jóvenes demandan las sustancias sintéticas como una alternativa de ocio, aunque son conscientes de que su consumo conlleva problemas de salud y sociales. Las diferencias de género revelan que los varones son más propensos a consumir drogas de diseño, y según las variables económicas la capacidad adquisitiva está positivamente correlacionada con la demanda.

Social agents aware of this situation, have to design specific programs to them in order to improve her development and participation. They have to affront not only the economical decadency of their communities but the native culture resistance to social innovation and traditional gender roles change. But in our globalize world, welfare is not possible without taking into account personal wellbeing and human and social capital importance. This article deeps into these topics and suggests possible intervention strategies.

Self-concept and self-esteem are two basic concepts that explain an individual’s successful functioning and adaptation in her environment. Additionally, culture, social stratification, and family system constitute causal agents in the process of socialization. In this process of development, maternal figures become an important source of transmission of differential values and positive self-evaluation for their children. In this article, from a psycho-social perspective, the cultural influence of maternal figures is analyzed. A comparison between characteristics both mothers and children from samples of Spain and Mexico is made.

We find that primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies are effective in minimizing this syndrome. These include better work management, an adjusted work schedule, a balance between work and family life, workforce personnel involvement, and improvement of employment policies which emphasize health promotion.

De ser un país de emigrantes, España se ha convertido en poco tiempo, en un foco importante de inmigrantes que acuden a sus ciudades principales. En épocas de crisis e incertidumbre como la nuestra, a menudo el estudio de esta “marea humana”, se circunscribe a sus  consecuencias en el mercado sociolaboral.Sin embargo, desde una perspectiva psicosocial, la presencia del inmigrante, nos lleva a la refl exión sobre lo diferente, la convivencia y sus valores, y la multiculturalidad. El presente artículo aborda la importancia de las relaciones sociales que se establecen entre la población autóctona y foránea desde las actuales confi guraciones urbanas y residenciales. La teoría de la identidad social de Tajfel nos ofrece nuevos elementos para la refl exión y el debate.
