RESUMEN The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has been devastating for international tourism, adversely affecting destinations, organizations, and local communities. In particular, the crisis highlights the need for local communities reliant on rural tourism to enhance their resilience to the risks simultaneously generated by the pandemic and accelerating impacts of climate change. This is important as the effects of these hazards are intertwined and cannot be treated in isolation. We explore community responses and resilience through case study Quebrada Verde, Peru, a small rural community in the Andes Mountains. Specifically, we report on a qualitative examination involving in-depth semi-structured interviews and focus groups with key informants from the community, supplemented by relevant documentary analysis. Drawing on community resilience and social networks perspectives, we find that th...

This article is developed with the purpose of analyzing land use changes and their impact on vegetation cover within the Protected Natural Area (PNA) Tingo María National Park (TMNP) and identifying the territorial actors and agents linked to these changes, between the years 2006 and 2021. To achieve this, qualitative methodologies have been applied, including semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation, as well as quantitative methodologies through the processing of satellite images to determine land use change rates. The results show that during the studied years, there are changes in the intervened soil cover and vegetative cover, both located in the Special Use and Buffer Zones of the National Park, which are associated with extensive agricultural practices for subsistence and local markets. Local population, organized with park managers, universities, and local and r...

River floods are common natural phenomena that occur when the flow of water exceeds the capacity of a river due to excessive rainfall. In the Peruvian territory, the heavy rains of 2010 had consequences of great magnitude, leaving more than 5000 people affected and 25 dead in the Peruvian Andes. This research aimed to analyze and determine the level of risk due to river floods in communities of the Peruvian Andes in terms of hazard and vulnerability, using a semi-quantitative methodology and applying a multi-criteria analysis with vector information and raster from the national spatial data infrastructure that acted as triggering and conditioning factors, as well as conducting fieldwork with the application of targeted surveys. Then, the geoprocessing of thematic maps through GIS software was carried out. The research findings indicate that virtually the entire study area, approximately ...
