It is presented the case of a 9-month-old canine patient, of an undefined breed, with decreased feed intake and increased size of the ventral part of the mandible. Radiographic examination showed bilateral and ventral bone proliferation of the mandibular body with increased radiodensity in this area. The lesion was compatible with craniomandibular osteopathy, a rare disease of unknown etiology that affects young dogs and is usually self-limiting and has a favourable prognosis.

The study evaluated the effect of a nutritional supplement (composed of the 10 essential and eight non-essential amino acids) and a commercial vitamin supplement on body weight and body condition of 44 malnourished dogs (body condition 1 and 2). The animals were weighed and evaluated on days 1, 7 and 14 of treatment. All the dogs gained weight in the 14 days of the study; however, those treated with the supplement based on essential and non-essential amino acids showed greater weight gain compared to the group treated with the vitamin supplement (p<0.05).

The frequency of lesions of the appendicular skeleton diagnosed in canines was evaluated in the radiology area of Small Animal Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos during the period 2012-2016. In total, 2552 radiological recordings made in the appendicular skeleton were analyzed. Of these, 43.3% (n=1106) presented traumatic injuries, 23.2% (n=591) orthopedic injuries, 12.7% (n=323) degenerative injuries, 2.7% (n=69) injuries compatible with osteomyelitis, 1.7% (n=42) lesions compatible with neoplasms, and 0.5% (n=13) lesions compatible with hypertrophic osteodystrophy. Among trauma injuries, the bone structures with the highest frequency of fracture were the pelvis (35.1%; n=388) and femur (26.9%; n=298) and among orthopedic injuries were patellar luxation (36.9%; n=218) and hip dysplasia (36.6%; n=216). Traumatological injuries wer...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the sedative effect of three products: valerian extract (Valeriana officinalis), benzocaine and tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222) on stress levels produced by a simulated transport model in tilapia fingerlings. In a first part, the sedative dose of the products was determined based on the clinical characteristics that indicate depression of the central nervous system. In the second part, sedation and subsequent simulated transport for 3 hours were performed. The fish were euthanized, and blood samples were taken from the tail vein to determine cortisol (ELISA) and glucose (portable glucometer) levels, haematological parameters and mortality. The optimal doses of sedation were 200, 35 and 75 mg/l, respectively, for valerian extract, benzocaine and MS-222. After 3 h of simulated transport, cortisol and glucose values were similar or higher compared to...
