This research includes the potential for resistance and the expansion that the soil presents, this evaluation was carried out through CBR tests. The soil cement technique was used to improve the physical and mechanical characteristics; this process consists in mixing the material with Portland cement type I. That combination forms soil cement 10%, 15% y 20%, which present an increase of the CBR (max: 138.7% and min: 91.9%) achieving a type of extraordinary subgrade to resist the structure of the pavement and a reduction of 7.18% in the expansion of the samples.

Lily (genus Lilium) is one of the most important flowers for bulb and cut flower production in the world. Lilium rubellum Baker is a native species of Japan that exhibits early flowering, is pink coloured, and possesses a pleasant fragrance, which makes it an important genetic resource for breeding lilies. In this work, the genetic diversity of L. rubellum was studied among three natural populations located in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, which have been designated as the Mt. Azuma, Nango and Atsushio-kano populations. A total of 31 accessions collected in 1997 were analysed using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Eighteen decamer primers produced 98% polymorphic RAPD bands; furthermore, 11 of the 18 primers produced 10 or more polymorphic bands with a mean per primer Polymorphic Information Content of 0.382. Among the three populations, the mean Shannon index, Nei´s gene...

Cognitive biases are unreasonable ways of making decisions, often in a one-sided way. The objective of this research was to describe the level of representativeness and confirmation biases in Chilean psychology students, in order to know how this phenomenon occurs. The participants were 198 psychology students from three universities in southern Chile. The instrument was based on two cognitive tasks derived from Kanheman and Tversky. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and mean differences. The results indicate a high level of biases in the groups of students, in the two tasks evaluated; the representativeness bias presents differences among universities only in sub-task 1, as well as in task 2, related to confirmation bias. Likewise, there are differences in representation bias according to age and sex. The need to strengthen reasoning skills in the initial training of...

Simulations that calculate the breakage of a given material allow for estimating the particle size produced by comminution equipment. However, conducting these simulations requires a significant amount of time and incurs high computational costs due to the progressive increase in the number of particles during the breakage events. This challenge has prompted the exploration of alternatives, such as employing impact energies present in simulations with solid particles. This study examines the application of two breakage models to particle speeds, analyzing the correlation between the t10 value obtained from simulations using solid particles and the value obtained when simulations include breakage. The findings reveal a linear relationship between the results obtained from simulations with breakage and those with solid particles for a rotor that primarily impacts particles during their ini...

Background: Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease that leads to salivary and lacrimal gland dysfunction. The adaptive immune response associated with T helper-2 lymphocytes appears to be altered in these patients. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the salivary levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-5, and IL-4 in patients with pSS when compared to a healthy control (HC) group. The secondary objectives were to study whether ILs levels in pSS patients were associated with salivary flow, patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) for xerostomia and oral health quality of life (Oral Health Impact Profile-14 [OHIP-14]), pSS classification criteria and presence of extraglandular manifestations. Methods: A case-control study was conducted in 36 patients with pSS and 35 HCs. Cytokine levels were measured using high-sensitivity multiplex map human immunoassays. Unstimul...
