We will discuss the need to end a debt that the Peruvian Government owns to the country’s culture: the construction of an appropriate infrastructure for the National Museum in the country’s capital. We will review previous experiences and will check current projects of the Ministry of Culture in Pachacamac. We will propose ideas for other museums required by Lima.

Estudiamos la escultura pública de la ciudad de Lima. Gran parte de la historia nacional está contada en dichas obras de arte: Manco Cápac, Francisco Pizarro, José de San Martín, Simón Bolívar, Ramón Castilla, José Gálvez y la Victoria del 2 de Mayo, Antonio Raimondi, Miguel Grau y Francisco Bolognesi. Las piezas han sido analizadas con métodos de la Historia del Arte (análisis formal, iconografía) en diálogo con disciplinas de las Ciencias Sociales. En este trabajo —avance de nuestra tesis doctoral en Historia del Arte— nos detenemos en un caso emblemático: el monumento al héroe deArica.

This article is dedicated to a monument and symbol of the city of Mollendo, the castle of Jose Miguel Forga. The building is a National Cultural Heritage and is quite damaged by time, neglect and vandalism. Its condition is a current issue for the patrimonial problematic, due to the fact that the people of Mollendo are determined to restore it and enhance its value. In order to place the monument in context, we used diverse sources that allow us to reconstruct the history of Mollendo, in addition to the in situ recognition of the city, the Forga Castle, and the related buildings.

This article examines approaches the cultural heritage characteristics of the Lower Chillón River Valley populations, from a multidisciplinary perspective: archaeology, history, architecture and education. In order to accomplish such goal, it is discussed the history and current state of the Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Republican cultural legacy of the studied area, along with its conservation and implementation of educational programs for the local community. 

We studied the public sculpture of Lima city. A large proportion of the national history is told in these pieces of art: Manco Cápac, Francisco Pizarro, José de San Martín, Simón Bolívar, Ramón Castilla, José Gálvez and the Victory on May 2, Antonio Raimondi, Miguel Grau and Francisco Bolognesi. The pieces have been analyzed with methods of the Art History (formal analysis, iconography) together with social science disciplines. In this work —draft of our doctoral thesis in Art History— we focus on an emblematic case: the monument to the hero of Arica.

Durante el período virreinal de la historia peruana, el arte estuvo principalmente al servicio de la difusión de la fe cristiana. Los templos y conventos de ciudades como Lima, Cusco, Puno, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Trujillo y Juli, fueron repositorios de multitud de obras en diversos géneros plásticos: escultura, pintura, platería, etc. La producción artística de ese período conforma uno de los conjuntos más ricos del patrimonio cultural del Perú. La investigación que se presenta para obtener el título de magíster en Arte Peruano y Latinoamericano versa sobre un tema específico del arte virreinal: tres cuadros de la Compañía de Jesús, obras de gran complejidad formal e iconográfica, cuyo contenido es de vital importancia para entender varios aspectos de la vida espiritual de los jesuitas de la Lima colonial.
