A descriptive study was conducted with the aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of surgical and chemotherapeutic treatment in transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) in canines. The study was carried out with cases brought to consultation in the veterinary clinic of the municipality of Rodas, Cienfuegos Province, Cuba. The population studied was 57 dogs diagnosed with TVT. One group (n=14) received chemotherapy with vincristine sulfate (00.1 mg/kg intravenously, three times at 10-day interval), a second group (n=17) underwent surgical treatment and the rest (n=26) received initial surgical treatment followed by chemotherapy, with the same dose and concentration as the first group. The results showed that the combination of surgery and chemotherapy obtained the total recovery of the animal in 95% of the cases in a period of three months.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of oregano essential oils (OEO) in the diet on duodenal morphometry of Cobb 500 broilers. In total, 400 chickens distributed in five treatments were used: supplementation with OEO (100, 200, 300 ppm) and two control treatments (commercial oregano [250 ppm] and growth-promoting antibiotic [300 ppm]), for six weeks, fed ad libitum with weekly formulated diets. The morphometric study was carried out with the help of a camera coupled to the microscope using AmScope 3.0 software, a 4x objective, covering an area of 2000 µm2. The variable proximal width of the villi was significantly greater (183 µm) in the OEO 300 ppm treatment at 21 days of age and the variable proximal depth was significantly greater (256 µm) in the OEO 300 ppm treatment at 42 days (p<0.05). It is concluded that the addition of OEO in doses of 300 ppm po...

The aim of this study was to determine the possible relationship between the presence of lesions called “White Spotted Kidney” (WSK) and the seroprevalence of Leptospira spp in cattle slaughtered in the Manta slaughterhouse, Manabí province, Ecuador. Blood samples were taken from 320 cattle to detect antibodies against Leptospira spp using the microagglutination technique. Likewise, a macroscopic revision of the kidneys was made, and samples were taken for histopathological analysis. The seroprevalence of Leptospira spp was 50.9% and the frequency of kidney injury was 18.13%. The presence of the eight serovars evaluated was found, with the serovars Pomona, Icterohaemorragiae and Bratislava being the most frequent. Animals serologically positive for Leptospira are 40.56 more likely to have specific lesions associated with the disease at the time of slaughter (p<0.00001; OR = 40.56...
