Ingestion of foreign bodies is a relative common situation in the emergency department; however, ingestion of toothbrush is rarely reported in the literature. We present the case of a 27-year-old man with a previous diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder, who presented to the emergency department 17 hours after an ingestion of a toothbrush. We performed an endoscopic removal using a polypectomy snare in the Gastroenterology Department under moderate sedation. No complications were reported in the procedure and the patient was discharged few hours later. Ingestion of toothbrush is rare in the literature and some authors described techniques using overtube and retractable snares and forceps. Endoscopic removal of a toothbrush under mod dure. However, if endoscopic removal fails, surgery should be performed.

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare condition in the general population that develops serious complications if left untreated for long time. We present a case of a 29-year-old woman who developed PVT due to protein S deficiency versus neonatal funiculitis. Over time, the patient developed upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to esophageal varices and hypersplenism with splenic sequestration that caused minor bleeding episodes. Laparoscopic splenectomy and proximal splenorenal shunt with distal pancreatectomy due to aneurysmal dilatations of the splenic artery were successfully performed to avoid mayor progression of portal hypertension. Patient was discharged with indefinite anticoagulation and after surgery platelets raised 3 3 ectomy and proximal splenorenal shunt for portal hypertension due to portal vein ombosis is an adequate surgery procedure which should be applied in these medi...

Questionnaires provided by the Rome Foundation as the Rome IV – Diagnostic questionnaire for adults, Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Symptom Severity Scale and Bristol stool scale were used. Results: 130 residents met the inclusion criteria. 46.9% were male...

Drug induced liver injury (DILI) can be can be triggered by many medications including antituberculosis drugs. We present the case of a 37-year-old woman with a smear- positive pulmonary tuberculosis who started treatment with first-line antituberculosis drugs and 4 weeks later presented jaundice, somnolence and a morbilliform generalized rash with progressive neurologic deterioration which had a fatal outcome. Antituberculosis drugs can cause DILI in 2 to 28% of patients and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome) in 1.2%. Acute liver failure (ALF) can occur in 35% of patients with DILI with an overall mortality of 9.7%. If the ALF is unresponsive to medical treatment, liver transplantation has shown promising results and can avoid progression of complications. DILI can be a serious medical condition in patients receiving antituberculosis drugs. If ALF dev...
