This study evaluated the effect of supplementing increasing levels of L-methionine (L-Met) in the diet for Muscovy ducks from hatch to 21 days of age. A total of 90 male Muscovy ducklings were assigned to 30 pens with 3 birds per pen. A basal diet with corn, soybean and wheat by-product was supplemented with 0, 0.08, 0.16, 0.24, 0.32 and 0.40% L-Met, obtaining 6 diets with increasing concentrations of sulfur amino acids, but constant in energy and other essential nutrients. Analysis of variance and Tukey's mean comparison test were performed. In addition, an effective dose-response model was performed to determine the optimal methionine level. Body weight and feed intake were not influenced (p>0.05) by L-Met supplementation, although a numerical trend towards greater weights was observed as supplementation increased. Feed conversion was significantly better with 0.24 and 0.32% L-Met s...

In Peru, the payment received by the producer per kilogram of raw milk is based on a base price, to which bonuses are applied according to quality criteria established by the dairy industry. In the present study, the relationship of compositional and hygienic quality with the value of payment per kilogram of milk in a dairy in the Huaura Valley was evaluated. Retrospective information on the total solids content (%ST), mesophilic aerobic count (UFC/ml) and the payment received (Peruvian sol - S/) per kilogram of raw milk (VP) was obtained from biweekly reports for the period 2017-2020. Data were analysed using Spearman’s trend and correlation analysis. The results showed a positive trend for the %ST (from 12.02% in 2017 to 12.21% in 2020) and negative for the CFU/ml (32,690 in 2017 to 18,117 in 2020). The PV had a similar trend to the %ST (S/ 1.39 in 2017 to S/ 1.41 in 2020). The %ST a...

The study monitored the productive performance of the paiche (Arapaima gigas) for 30 months under temperate climate conditions on the Central Coast of Peru. After 40 days of acclimatization and with 80% survival, the fish (n: 32, weight: 44 ± 34 g, length: 17.6 ± 4.9 cm) were transferred to a greenhouse pool (8 fish/m3) and fed at 5 % of their body weight with a diet of 60% balanced trout food and 40% deboned and gutted fresh fish. After 15 months under a greenhouse and with 62% survival, the fish (n: 20, weight: 4.3 ± 1.0 kg, length: 77.3 cm) were transferred to an open-air excavated earth pond (6.9 fish/m3) and fed fresh fish at 5% of body weight. The water temperature fluctuated between 23.2 and 26.0 °C in the greenhouse, and between 23.0 and 24.6 °C in the environmental pond, being up to 18% lower in temperature with respect to the minimum water temperature in its natural habi...
