The report of critical values is considered a necessary practice in clinical pathology laboratories, since its immediate communication determines therapeutic decisions that can save lives. The choice of critical values and the way in which they are reported must be a joint decision between the laboratory specialists and the clinical professionals of each health facility, since they must be integrated into the dynamics of the services involved. Among the critical values that have been chosen for this review, we have included quantitative parameters, whose processing is carried out in automated hematology analyzers, and morphological findings in peripheral blood smears, which are evaluated by trained professionals.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a common myeloproliferative disease in adults, characterized by an overproduction of granulocytes in bone marrow as a consequence of the t(9:22)(q34;q11) translocation, known as Philadelphia chromosome. We present a case of CML in a 12-year-old male patient, who was admitted for outpatient care at the Alberto Sabogal Sologuren National Hospital. The clinical and laboratory findings of the case are described. Also, a general presentation of the disease is made and the differences between adult and pediatric CML are discussed, since it is a rare neoplasm in pediatric patients.

Objective: assess five EIA tests aimed to quantify specific antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 and compared to a surrogate viral neutralization for assessing neutralizing antibodies. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study during the period from July to October 2020, in which the sera of 96 participants whose ages were between 18 and 65 years were evaluated, all recovered from COVID-19 and obtained between 28 and 212 days after the onset of symptoms. ELISA tests used for testing include measurement of total antibodies (IgG & IgM); IgG antibodies against S protein (IgG S1/S2, IgG S, IgG S-RBD); IgG antibodies against nucleocapsid antigens, and IgM antibodies against S-RBD antigen. Pearson's linear correlation coefficient was used to know the degree of correlation between the values of the viral neutralization antibody titer and the values of the titer level of antibodies evaluated by each of ...
