The aim of this study was to identify the monogenean ectoparasites and the parasitic indices of juveniles of Cichla monoculus from the Tarapoto lake, Nanay river, Peru, between July and September 2011. Thirty juveniles were examined (35.9 ± 14.0 g and 14.46 ± 1.97 cm). The fins, nostrils and branchial arches were removed and placed in a petri dish with distilled water for the search of monogeneans. The parasites were fixed in glycerin ammonium-picrate (GAP) to observe the sclerotized structures. There were 2343 monogeneans in the gills and 240 individuals were collected for identification. Three species were identified: Gussevia longihaptor (prevalence = 80%, mean intensity = 5.21 parasite/fish, mean abundance = 4.17 parasite/fish), Gussevia undulata (prevalence = 70%, mean intensity = 4.95 parasite/fish, mean abundance = 3.47 parasite/fish) and Sciadicleithrum ergensi (prevalence = 23...

The aim of this study was to determine the presence of the copepod Perulernaea gamitanae in juveniles of Colossoma macropomum and to relate the abundance of the parasite with the length and weight of the hosts. Thirty specimens of 29.1 ± 2.8 cm of total length and 506.3 ± 124.6 g of body weight from a semi-intensive fish farm in Maynas, Loreto (Peru) were evaluated. It was collected 120 individuals of P. gamitanae located in the buccal cavity and in the cartilages of the gills. The prevalence was 90%, the mean intensity was 4.4 parasites/infested fish, the average abundance was 4 parasites/fish, with an intensity range of 1 to 10 parasites/fish. The abundance of this copepod was related to the length and weight of the host. This is the second record of P. gamitanae in C. macropomun in fish farms in the Peruvian Amazon.

The aim of this study was to describe a case of Piscinoodinium pillulare infestation and mortality in juveniles of Colossoma macropomum. In March 2019, 21 juvenile specimens of a semi-intensive fish farm were collected in the Maynas area, Loreto (Peru). Parasitological analysis of the external parts of the fish was performed and the presence of P. pillulare located on the skin, fins, gills, and nostrils was observed. Furthermore, a 30% mortality was recorded (1500 out of 5000 seeded). The non-disinfection of the pond, the inadequate control in the feeding, and the proliferation of Oreochromis niloticus (tilapia) in the culture were the causes of the proliferation of P. pillulare. This is the first reported case of P. pillulare infestation in juveniles of C. macropomum grown in the Peruvian Amazon.

The objective of this study was to determine the diversity and abundance of ectoparasites in the gills of 80 specimens of Arahuana Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Cuvier, 1829) from Lake “El Dorado” in the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, in Loreto, Peru. The gills of each specimen were collected and placed separately in formalin and water solution (1: 4000) and preserved in refrigeration at 4 °C until laboratory analysis. The analysis consisted of the location, counting, collection and fixation of the ectoparasites of each branchial arch. The results showed that 100% of the analyzed specimens were infested with one or more ectoparasites. A total of five species of Monogenoidea were identified: Gonocleithrum cursitans Kritsky & Thatcher, 1983, Gonocleithrum aruanae Kritsky & Thatcher, 1983 and Gonocleithrum coenoideum Kritsky & Thatcher, 1983 and two Copepoda: Ergasilus sp. an...

The effect of the chlorophytes Scenedesmus sp and Chlorella sp used as feed on the growth of the native cladoceran Ceriodaphnia sp were studied. Three treatments with three repetitions for each chlorophyte were used: T1 = 5 ml.L-1 (25 x 106 cells), T2 = 10 ml.L-1 (50 x 106 cells) and T3 = 15 ml.L-1 (75 x 106 cel). The physical and chemical characteristics of the water in the containers varied between 28.4 and 28.6 °C, pH between 6.57 and 7.36 and the dissolved oxygen between 6.34 and 6.66 mg/l between treatments. The results showed that Ceriodaphnia sp prefers the Chlorella sp microalgae, where diets with a concentration of 10 ml.l-1 (50 x 106 cells) were better than the other diets.
