Materiales y métodos: se realizó una búsqueda sistemática en las bases de datos PubMed y Scopus, seleccionando 14 estudios clínicos publicados entre 2002 y 2024. Los criterios de inclusión abarcaron ensayos controlados aleatorizados en humanos que evaluaron plantas medicinales para la HTA, excluyendo estudios en animales, revisiones narrativas y meta-análisis. El proceso siguió las directrices PRISMA, y los datos se analizaron mediante tabulación y síntesis cualitativa. Resultados: los estudios mostraron que plantas como Allium sativum (Ajo), Hibiscus sabdariffa y Evolvulus alsinoides redujeron significativamente la presión arterial, con efectos comparables a fármacos como ramipril y captopril. Algunas plantas también demostraron beneficios adicionales, como propiedades antiinflamatorias y antioxidantes. Sin embargo, se observaron limitaciones metodológicas, como tamaños muestrales pequeños y falta de estandarización en las preparaciones herbales. Conclusión: las plantas medicinales presentan un potencial terapéutico prometedor para el manejo de la HTA, pero se requieren más estudios rigurosos con diseños robustos y estandarización de extractos para confirmar su eficacia y seguridad. Su integración en la práctica clínica debe basarse en evidencia científica y supervisión profesional. |

The inclusion criteria included randomized controlled trials in humans evaluating medicinal plants for hypertension, excluding animal studies, narrative reviews, and meta-analyses.
