Materiales y métodos: experimental y cuantitativo; población de 20 kg de Thymus vulgaris L; muestra 3 kg de hojas; se utilizó 5 placas inoculadas en cada cepa Streptococcus mutans y Porphyromonas gingivalis. De igual manera, se ejecutó la marcha fitoquímica, agar en pozos constituida al (10%, 25% y 50%) ante clorhexidina 0,12%. Resultados: las medidas de los halos 10%, 25% y 50% del colutorio efectuado con el extracto etanólico de hojas de tomillo respecto con S mutans y P gingivalis resultaron inferiores que clorhexidina 0,12% (20,5980 y 24,3540). El análisis de ANOVA registró (p (p<0,05) en confrontación con el grupo comparativo; existió, antraquinonas, lactonas α, β-insaturadas, saponinas, antocianinas, flavonoides y alcaloides. Conclusión: el colutorio efectuado con el extracto etanólico de hojas de Thymus vulgaris L. (tomillo) manifestó actividad antibacteriana in vitro frente Streptococcus mutans y Porphyromonas gingivalis.

Materials and methods: experimental and quantitative; population of 20 kg of Thymus vulgaris L; sample 3 kg of leaves; 5 plates inoculated with each strain of Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis were used. Similarly, the phytochemical process was carried out, agar in wells constituted at (10%, 25% and 50%) with 0.12% chlorhexidine. Results: the measurements of the 10%, 25% and 50% halos of the mouthwash made with the ethanolic extract of thyme leaves with respect to S mutans and P gingivalis were lower than those of 0.12% chlorhexidine (20.5980 and 24.3540). The ANOVA analysis recorded (p<0.05) in comparison with the comparative group; there were anthraquinones, α, β unsaturated lactones, saponins, anthocyanins, flavonoids and alkaloids.
