description Se realizó una investigación en un hospital de EsSalud en Trujillo, Perú entre marzo 2017 y abril 2018, para determinar si el uso de la prueba rápida rotavirus-adenovirus y test de reacción inflamatoria positiva influye o no en la prescripción de antibióticos a menores de 5 años con diarrea aguda. El estudio fue de tipo cohorte prospectivo. La muestra estuvo conformada por dos grupos: (A) 79 niños (test de reacción inflamatoria positiva en heces) y (B) 79 niños (test de reacción inflamatoria positiva en heces y uso de la prueba rápida rotavirus - adenovirus), se analizó la prescripción o no antibióticos en cada grupo. La técnica que se usó fue la del análisis documental, siendo los datos de laboratorio e historia clínica automatizada registrados en una ficha de recolección de información para ser procesada y analizada con pruebas estadísticas. Entre los principales resultados se evidenció la disminución en la prescripción de antibióticos estadísticamente significativa (p=0,001) en la población.
