Material y Método: la investigación tiene un enfoque cuantitativo, de diseño no experimental, correlacional, transversal, prospectivo; se emplearon 2 cuestionarios, el cuestionario de depresión de Beck-II y cuestionario de adherencia SMAN en una muestra de 163 pacientes. Resultados: los resultados de la investigación revelan que una correlación negativa significativa entre la depresión y la adherencia al tratamiento de hemodiálisis determinada por el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman, donde rho=-0.513 y p< 0.001, lo cual indica que a mayor depresión hay menor adherencia al tratamiento de hemodiálisis y viceversa, así mismo se encontró que el 39.2% tenían depresión leve, 83.4% tenían muy buena adherencia al tratamiento, el 65% de los pacientes eran del género masculino, 57.1% de los pacientes son mayores de 60 años, 36.2% tenían un tiempo de permanencia en hemodiálisis entre 1 a 5 años. Conclusiones: se concluye que, si existe una correlación significativa entre la depresión y la adherencia al tratamiento de hemodiálisis, así mismo se determinó que independientemente del grado de depresión que tenga el paciente, hay muy buena adherencia al tratamiento de hemodiálisis
