Las mediciones fueron desde la raíz disto-lingual del segundo molar mandibular a la cortical interna y externa de la superficie lingual del cuerpo mandibular, la diferencia de ambas mediciones determinó el valor de la cortical. La inclinación bucolingual de segundas molares fue determinada mediante la relación del eje principal de la segunda molar inferior y plano oclusal. Resultados: El promedio de la longitud de zona retromolar a nivel del 1°, 2°, 3° y 4° plano fueron 8.78 mm, 7.76 mm, 7.34 mm y 3.12 mm respectivamente. El grosor de cortical a nivel del 1°, 2°, 3° y 4° plano fueron 3.88 mm, 3.94 mm, 4.07 mm y 4.32 mm respectivamente. La inclinación promedio de la segunda molar mandibular fue de 69.76°. Así mismo se observó ausencia de correlación entre la longitud de la zona retromolar y la inclinación (p> 0,05). Conclusiones: La longitud de la zona retromolar disminuye y la cortical aumenta sus dimensiones al descender en dirección apical y no presenta correlación con la inclinación bucolingual de la segunda molar.

Methodology: To evaluate the retromolar area, the bicuspid line of the first molar and the mandibular occlusal plane were used, the first plane was located at the level of the root bifurcation of the second molar and the following planes at 2, 4, 6 mm (1 °, 2°, 3° and 4° plane) in the apical direction. The measurements were from the disto-lingual root of the mandibular second molar to the internal and external cortex of the lingual surface of the mandibular body, the difference of both measurements determined the value of the cortex. The buccolingual inclination of second molars was determined by the relationship of the main axis of the lower second molar and occlusal plane. Results: The average length of the retromolar zone at the level of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th plane were 8.78 mm, 7.76 mm, 7.34 mm and 3.12 mm respectively. The thickness of the cortex at the level of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th plane were 3.88 mm, 3.94 mm, 4.07 mm and 4.32 mm respectively. The average inclination of the mandibular second molar was 69.76°. Likewise, an absence of correlation was observed between the length of the retromolar area and the inclination (p> 0.05).
