Currently there is little scientific date information on its occurrence, symptoms, etiology, epidemiology, life cycle management or control strategies of that disease, by performing this review both these important topics, bringing with it to this area of knowledge.Más de un siglo, el cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) en el Ecuador ha sido fuente importante de ingresos para los agricultores y de divisas para el país, llegando a ser uno de los exportadores más grandes a nivel mundial. Posteriormente, perdió paulatinamente ese estatus debido al ataque de enfermedades, entre ellas la moniliasis causada por [Moniliophthora roreri (Cif y Par) Evans et al.]. Esta enfermedad puede causar daños hasta del 80% en la producción.
