A systematic review of scientific articles and theses was carried out, without restriction of dates or types of study. We reviewed the full articles that included on the importance of cognitive strategies and reading comprehension. Ten articles were selected, most of these looking for the relationship exists. Good percentage of the authors of the articles and thesis reviewed conclude that the good use of cognitive strategies develops reading comprehension skills reaching the desired goal, the understanding of the text. It even depends on these strategies that the student develops increasingly complex performance criteria for reading comprehension.La investigación se enfocó en valorar el nivel de evidencia científica que existe sobre el uso de estrategias cognitivas como un determinante en la actividad de comprensión lectora en estudiantes de diferentes niveles educativos: primaria, secundaria y superior. Se realizó una revisión sistemática de artículos científicos, tesis y textos, sin restricción de fechas ni tipos de estudio. Se revisaron los materiales completos que incluían sobre la importancia de las estrategias cognitivas y la comprensión lectora.  Se seleccionaron 19 artículos, la mayoría de estas buscando la relación existe. Buen porcentaje de los autores de los artículos y tesis revisados concluyen que el buen uso de estrategias cognitivas desarrolla habilidades de comprensión lectora llegando a la meta deseada, la comprensión del texto.
