Los últimos cálculos respecto de la población de las trece provincias mencionadas arrojan un total de 453,469 habitantes, pero dicha estimativa no incluye por supuesto a los varios miles de ancashinos que residen en Lima y en otras ciudades de la costa central. Aproximadamente el sesenta por ciento de los hablantes de quechua ancashino son bilingües.
