Resúmenes4 páginas.En el nororiente peruano las cuencas subandinas que forman parte del sistema de cuencas de antepaís amazónico, incluye a las cuencas Santiago y Huallaga. Estas cuencas formaron parte de una plataforma de extensión continua (Petróleos del Perú, 1976; Pardo y Sánchez 1999; Baby et al., 2005) deformadas por una tectónica de basamento e inversión tectónica, en ciertos lugares influenciada por una tectónica salífera (Gil, 2002; Hermoza, 2004; Navarro, 2005). Por el norte, la cuenca Santiago tiene una orientación N-S y una sucesión sedimentaria que va del TriásicoJurásico al Neógeno. Por el sur, la cuenca Huallaga tiene una orientación NO-SE y una sucesión sedimentaria en afloramientos, entre el Paleozoico inferior y el Neógeno. La zona de transición entre estas dos cuencas es la prolongación austral de la zona de influencia de la flexión de Huancabamba. El objetivo de este trabajo es adicionar información a la existente (Sánchez, 1995), sobre la geología de superficie, que permita la caracterización morfoestructural de la zona de transición entre las cuencas de Santiago y Huallaga.
