The article analyzes the urban leasing policy in contemporary Peru and seeks to explain the origin and permanence of contractual interventionism in urban leasing until the 21st century. All political periods are analyzed, from the governments of Augusto Leguía (1919-1930) to the governments of the last democratic transition (2000-2020) and it seeks to show very synthetically the multiple determinations of contractual interventionism. The analysis of public policy on urban leasing is developed within the framework of the contemporary Peruvian urbanization process, defined by the development of the so-called neighborhood as the way through which the urban popular sectors accessed housing from the decade from the fifties of the 20th century and how they were incorporated and integrated into the city; and the parallel weakening of the identification between slum, rental and housing of the u...

This working paper serves as the basis for a critical examination of the notion of knowledge co-production. The paper examines how the idea of knowledge co-production has emerged in relation to the parallel but distinct concept of service co-production and the participatory development planning tradition. It also examines the variety of processes of knowledge co-production that may take place in the context of academic research. In doing so, the working paper highlights the centrality of knowledge co-production in the Knowledge in Action for Urban Equality (KNOW) project’s research strategy, with a focus on actionable knowledge that may support transformative trajectories towards urban equality. Such an approach is based on the view that knowledge production underpins the process, ethics, and outcomes of any urban development intervention. Using well-documented examples of knowledge co-...

The article presented here is the result of an anthropological approach to urban populations belonging to the middle and marginalized sectors in eight Mexican states, which we carried out for the Secretary of Health in 1994. This research was carried out in parallel to the second National Survey of Health (ENSA-11), seeking to delve into the meanings that mediate the processes of use of the different health services to which these social sectors have access.

To more economic growth, less chronic malnutrition? What factors determine the persistent association between extractive economies and prevalence of chronic malnutrition? The answer to these questions is made taking as the unit of analysis the regions in Peru from 1950 to 2010. It is considered a sample of five regions: Ancash, Cajamarca, Huancavelica extractive mining and agricultural tradition, and Lambayeque to Ica economy based on agribusiness, manufacturing and trade. The study shows, in the period, parallel processes and identify a complex range of social determinants between the continued growth and a tendency to decrease in chronic malnutrition, but with different speeds in the regions over the past decade envisioning opening an epidemiological transition in nutrition. It uses information from the INEI, ENDES, project evaluations, research reports and interviews with mothers of ...
