The architecture of cities currently faces a process of globalization with patterns that are changing urban, social, economic, and cultural structures towards the paradigm of complexity with dynamics in constant interaction, resulting for urban studies an intricate and difficult to understand set. This change requires a systemic vision to recognize both the properties of the object and the behavior of the subjects, around an architectural system, which together add up to more than the whole. Reflection from the academy is important, assuming an interdisciplinary teaching and with an epistemological vision from the global south.

This article aspires to be a contribution to an anthropological approach on housing and habitat, understanding both notions as complex socio-cultural phenomena. In this sense, our aim is to reflect —from an ethnographic point of view— on the processes whereby living spaces are appropriated, as well as to reflect on certain features that neighbors’ sociability adopts in a social-interest housing complex built as a large urban unit in the South-East area of Buenos Aires, specifically in the barrio of Villa Soldati. In order to do so, we made a distinction between planned spaces and developed spaces, and also differentiated three uses of the common and shared spaces in this particular housing complex: spaces with idle use, incompatible use and uncivil use. The qualitative methodology used in this study was based on a still ongoing field work, which included field observation and non-d...

Based on ceramic and architectural evidence collected from the archaeological complex of Campanario, we identify this site as the political and religious center in the valley of Huarmey around AD 1000. In this article we discuss the activity areas of Campanario and present detailed description of a local style of ceramic which we are calling the Campanario Style. Artifacts and features from surface contexts have allowed us to reconstruct the occupational history and site chronology of Campanario. The results of our analyses have furthered our understanding of the type of sociopolitical organization operating in the Huarmey Valley during the Late Intermediate Period (AD 900-1400).

The cities of southern Peru can be understood as urban organisms shaped by the superimposition of historical, social, and territorial layers. This article offers a comparative analysis of the urban structure of Cusco, Arequipa, and Tacna through the typomorphological framework proposed by Gianfranco Caniggia and Gian Luigi Maffei, aiming to identify common patterns in their formative processes. The study applies a qualitative-comparative methodology based on the multiscalar typological process of anthropic space. Results indicate that the urban structure of these cities is influenced by territorial structuring elements, the functions of initial settlements, typical fabrics, and characteristic buildings. Specifically, Cusco presents a longitudinal structure, Arequipa an organic one, and Tacna a border-form structure. The research concludes that typomorphology is a key tool to interpret ur...

Mexico City is one of the oldest and largest urban concentrations in the world. It constitutes a vastconcentration of labor power and means of production that represents a formidable capacity forextracting profits, and requires a complex management for its control. In recent years the battle forthe metropolis has become more acute and is currently expressed in the expansion of real estatedevelopments, named by popular urban movement as the real estate tsunami. This is the densificationof the urban core from the vertical expansion of the city through the construction of housing towers, but also through the expansion of new transport networks such as MetroBus (Bus Rapid Transport) andthe overlap of controlled access roads, the expansion of shopping centers, the privatization of publicspaces (pocket parks), the elimination of unbuilt spaces, the displacement of the poorest population ofurban...

Understand the violence in Colombia which comes from the armed conflict as a complex problem of education, in perspective of emerging archetypes for territorial management, as a commitment of humanity around three crucial issues: the influence of rural and urban education by violence; deschooling and forced displacement; since being a teacher is a matter of hero. In relation to this we must mention that through the Peace Agreements between the National Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), public policies, government programs, demands and actions of society have generated powerful power constitutional bodies and expressions of governance and governance, for the importance of different realities lived in the territories of our country and that have supported over five decades, the scourge of violence by groups outside the law. A methodologically commitment addr...

The aim of the article is to map the changes undergone by cognitive capitalism to gain an understanding of the contemporary city. First, the article takes a conceptual approach in order to perceive current urban cultural problematics. At the same time, it seeks to reconstruct the genealogy of leisure tourism, analyzing its transformations and exploring the complex framework of enhancement promoted to museify contemporary cities, establishing to this end a fundamental nexus between cultural consumption and the tourist industry. Finally, the article promotes a critical and reflexive approach to formulating possible alternatives to mitigate urban museification.

This article is located in the complex plot that surrounds the boom that religious activities have acquired in Mexico. I narrate the Sitio de Jericho and the Marian Cenacle. That is to say, various sets of religious activities that take place in the Cristo Rey parish in Mérida, the participation of the priests of that parish and that of the faithful attending these activities. From my perspective, and for analysis purposes, these activities can be seen , on the one hand, as the empirical strategy that I resort to in order to understand its meaning, the forms of insertion of the faithful in them and the ways in which they impact and, on the other, as the actions that the hierarchy of that parish undertakes to maintain its hegemony, retain its faithful in light of the numerous religious offer and fill that void that the Mexican State has left.

Throughout the 20th century, the significance and thinking of the modern movement, disseminated by the CIAM, was of great relevance in finding solutions to the new urban problems, based on alternative proposals such as the construction of housing units. Thus, at the end of the 1940s, modern architecture arrived in Lima with the construction of various collective housing projects. The vertical residence pilot was Neighborhood Unit No. 3, and for the horizontal proposal, the Previ Housing Project. In both constructions, not only was a solution provided to the homes internally; It also implied an articulation with public space. Similarly, in the city of Tacna, at the end of the 1950s, a great urban expansion was experienced as a result of the massive migration of inhabitants from other regions of the country. This generated a high demand for residential spaces, which is why public policies ...

Traditionally, the urban informal sector (UIS) has either not been taken into account in the design and application of economic policy or has been so erroneously, even though its presence modifies the evolution of the macroeconomic and distributive variables to a considerable extent. This fact, which arises in no small measure from the insufficiencies and inconsistencies of the conventional paradigm, explains in part in the achievement of its targets during the last years in Latin America. It is then necessary to analyze in detail the short run economic role of the UIS. When the author defines the latter as a sector of economy, on account of its peculiar economic rationality and of the existence of various and complex supply and demands mechanisms through which it relates to the rest of the economy, he lays down the foundations of a new theoretical point of view on the UIS, which, on the...

The aim of this study was to implement low complexity methods as butyril cholinesterase activity and thin layer chromatography (TLC) to identify the causal agent of an event that affected 45 poisoned dogs in Mendoza, Argentina. The pesticide identified in the bait extracted from the mouth of a canine was the insecticide carbamate aldicarb, substance with high toxicity, low management safety, with ecotoxicological effects, and with restrictions for its use in Argentina since 1990. Cholinesterase activity levels were indicators of the outcome of the animals.

This article makes a review of scientific literature with the objective of knowing the different perspectives and interpretations on rural - urban migration of young people and adolescents at risk of social exclusion. The methodology applied in the framework of the qualitative approach allowed the organization, study and interpretation of 25 research published in the digital library of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. As a result, it was understood that migration is a complex, dynamic and multifaceted phenomenon. In this perspective emerges the type of rural-urban migration movement that falls on the group of young people and adolescents who "go out in search of work" and those who "migrate to study". This population of migrant youth and adolescents from the countryside to the city is one of the most vulnerable segments. In this condition, young subjects are exposed to multiple dy...

This study identifies the adverse context for the reproduction of peri-urban family farming in Cuautlancingo, Puebla, through a case study that analyzes the territorial transformations shaping its peri-urban area. The analysis shows that these transformations reflect a complex process of spatial, socioeconomic, and cultural reconfiguration, underpinned by dynamics of accumulation by dispossession (AxD). Urban expansion, neoliberal policies, and real-estate speculation have displaced traditional agricultural practices, fostering land-tenure changes and legalization mechanisms of ejido property that integrate agricultural land into the real-estate market. Among the findings, more than 40 % of agricultural areas were lost between 2005 and 2021 due to growth in the industrial and housing sectors. Nevertheless, agriculture persists as a sociocultural practice and a source of local identity. T...

The relationship between Spain and America in the urban-planning discipline, inasmuch as it supports an ongoing cultural dialog throughout the centuries, leaves a stamp, marked as heritage, that still resists as an overseas legacy. The urban-planning experiences carried out in what Hardoy called a “classic model of Spanish-American city”, the continuous cultural exchange and the link between the ordinances and charters that marked their guidelines are clear exponents of the strong influence America had on peninsular cities, and vice versa. It was a continuous dialog carried out from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This ‘urban identity’, which also includes what is intangible, persists up to date as a common element that forms the base on which the fragment of a complex mosaic are molded (dependent societies, cultural juxtapositions, etc.). The preservation of these urban struct...
