La presente tesis se realizó en el marco del proyecto “Propuesta de techos verdes acondicionados a viviendas rurales de las zonas altoandinas del Perú (altitud > 3500 msnm)”. La investigación planteó un sistema de regulación de temperatura en viviendas rurales con la finalidad de incrementar las temperaturas cuando estas sean bajas. Este sistema consiste en adicionar una cobertura vegetal a un techo preexistente de una vivienda rural típica denominando a este sistema como “Techo Verde”. El techo verde está conformado desde abajo hacia arriba, por una capa impermeable, un sistema de drenaje, un geotextil, un sustrato vegetal y plantaciones. El sistema de drenaje utilizado es el MacDrain 2L FP, el sustrato vegetal y las plantaciones son nativas de la zona del proyecto. El año 2012 las zonas alto andinas de la Región Tacna soportaron temperaturas de hasta 22 grados bajo cero durante la temporada de invierno según Informe del Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (SENAMHI), con dicha temperatura se volvió a alcanzar el record histórico de Tacna. La vivienda rural andina es sumamente precaria, no tiene el aislamiento adecuado, hecho que permite el ingreso de corrientes de aire frío al interior de la misma, carece de un sistema de aprovechamiento de la energía generada por la combustión de leña durante la preparación de alimentos; tiene piso de tierra, el techo de calamina, puentes térmicos (rendijas) por donde entra el aire frío, las puertas no cierran herméticamente, mala calidad del adobe, carencia de refuerzos y otros que la hacen vulnerable ante los embates de la naturaleza (heladas, lluvias y sismos).
