Background: Malaria is transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes of the Anopheles genus. The Tumbes region located on the northern border of Peru, despite the permanent presence of the vector, was free of malaria, presenting only sporadic imported cases. Results: The control activities implemented through the modified epidemiological fence methodology to control the reintroduction of the disease are described; transmission of the outbreak related to Venezuelan migrants in transit was detected.  Conclusions: the reintroduction of malaria in the Tumbes region was related to cases imported by Venezuelan migration. Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease with no “gold standard” for diagnosis. This report, describing the case of a 31-year-old woman with Turner syndrome and chronic recurrence of bloody diarrhea, emphasizes timely diagnosis by intraoperative enteroscopy. The patient, in addition to diarrheal symptoms, presented abdominal pain and severe anemia, which were initially misdiagnosed as celiac disease and then as intestinal tuberculosis. After multiple tests and treatments, a biopsy by intraoperative enteroscopy identified chronic granulomatous ileitis, confirming the diagnosis of CD. This finding was crucial to adjust treatment and significantly improve symptoms. The case  highlights the importance of accurate diagnostic evaluation in patients with complex comorbidities and the value of intraoperative enteroscopy in diagnosing inflammatory bowel diseases. The ...

Background: Mites are among the smallest arthropods that can be seen without magnification, were the use of dermatoscopy is an invaluable tool. They are a cosmopolitan pest, and at the moment more than 250 species have been shown to produce problems for humans and animals alike. These mites are capable of producing a wide array of clinical signs and symptoms, from local to systemic, from mild to severe, as well as transmitting pathogens. This study aimed to provide an update to the clinical impact on human health, the distribution and species involved in the clinical conditions produced by trombiculids through a systematic review. Background: Mites are among the smallest arthropods that can be seen without magnification, were the use of dermatoscopy is an invaluable tool. The due motivation for issuing decisions is the constitutional right of citizens to know the factual and legal reasons that the authorities and officials, especially those of the State apparatus, adopt to resolve claims, where their interests are included. This right is a component of the due process, also called fair process, an expression of effective procedural protection. There is a gender-to-species relationship between both concepts and, consequently, they are closely linked; therefore, undue motivation would be a flagrant violation of citizens’ rights. In this line of ideas, one constantly hears about the filing of appeals against decisions issued because citizens are not satisfied with them, one of the arguments being the lack of motivation, for allegedly having violated substantive and procedural guarantees in the course of the process. In some cases, the appeals are admitted ...

The contribution of mineralogy is essential in modern mining studies. Its importance lies in the qualification of mineral deposits and in what has been designated as process mineralogy, this concept has taken force due to the different uses in the processing of mineral deposits. Mineralogical studies provide information on the different classes of minerals and their peculiarities. This provides information to explain the results obtained in the different metallurgical tests and determine the potential that could affect the processing. As it is decisive to establish the disposition of the minerals in the deposit, we need to apply the different mineralogical characterization methods such as X-ray diffractometry, electron microscopy (microprobe and scanning), optical microscopy, among others. These resources are used together, being complementary to obtain complete information. This researc...

This research was aimed at determining to what extent factors prior to university admission, motivational factors, and institutional experiences explain the academic persistence of students in the University Leveling Term (CIU) at the Simon Bolivar University - Coastal Campus. An explanatory-type quantitative study was proposed, which involved a non-experimental cross-sectional retrospective causal relationship design. The sample consisted of 101 students (50.5% female) with an average age of 17.90 years (SD = 2.37). The study found a significant relationship between some variables explaining academic persistence, which were: a) having a lower orientation toward academic goals; b) a higher score on the maladaptive pattern; c) a higher score in the perception of the Mathematics professor’s evaluation; and d) a higher score in the final performance. This set of variables explains 56.4% o...
