The relevance of a timely diagnosis in oral cavity cancer is pointed out, as well as a brief synthesis of the literature. The case of a female patient who attends the UNAM Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic with a history of having undergone several biopsies in which no conclusive results were found, is reported. Therefore, it was decided to perform an incisional biopsy in order to define the pathology. The article aims to emphasize the importance of a correct and timely diagnosis, so that the patient can receive the best treatment. In conclusion, the role played by the specialist in an early and accurate detection and the overall commitment of the patient can considerably reduce morbidity and mortality.

Mucoceles are salivary extravasation lesions associated with rupture of ducts that are generally associated with trauma. They are bluish, translucent in appearance, fluctuating on palpation, expansive and fast growing. They mostly occur in young people. The most common site of location is the mucosa of the lower lip, however, they can occur in any area that contains minor salivary glands, such as the belly of the tongue, where the Blandin-Nuhn glands are located. The frequency of lesions associated with Blandin-Nuhn’s glands is 2.25%, with approximately 400 cases reported to date. The purpose of this publication is the description of an uncommon pathology, as well as a review of the literature. The case of a three-year-old female with a history of congenital volume increase at the dorsum of the tongue without symptoms compatible with mucocele is reported, an excisional biopsy was perfo...

The odontogenic myxoma is a benign lesion that occurs mostly between the second and fourth decade of life, more frequently in the molar area and with a higher incidence in men than in women (2:1). Histologically, it presents starred and fusiform cells dispersed in a very abundant myxoid matrix. The objective of this article is to report a clinical case of an odontogenic myxoma, as well as a brief review of the literature. Subject: a 39-year-old female patient who attended the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic due to an increase in volume located in the jaw in the vestibular area between teeth 31 and 44; asymptomatic at palpation, with an evolution of approximately twelve months. An incisional biopsy was performed for the histopathological study. The result of the histopathological study was an odontogenic myxoma, so we decided that the best treatment was a free margin resection and r...

The odontogenic keratocyst is an intraosseous lesion that arises from remains of the dental lamina and basal cells of the overlying mucosa. It occurs most frequently between the second and third decade of life, with an incidence between 5 to 14% of all odontogenic cysts; its recurrence varies according to the treatment, reaching 23% only with enucleation. The aim of this article is to report two cases of keratocyst with different treatment therapies in recurrent keratocyst (marsupialization, decompression and use of 5-fluoruracil); we disclose this report due to the importance of non-invasive treatments with adjuvant therapies that reduce recurrence in patients with keratocyst.
