The study evaluated the effect of four types of drinkers and the addition of Vitamin C in the supplement on the productive performance and economic benefit of guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) reared during the dry season in the Mantaro valley, Junin, Peru. Four hundred weaned males, 14 ± 3 days of age from the experimental farm of the IVITA Research Centre were used in a completely randomized design with 2 x 4 arrangement factorial (with and without addition of vitamin C and four types of drinkers) using five experimental units for treatment and every experimental unit formed by 10 animals. The drinkers were the type of a bowl (POC), continuous recharge (REC), suction (SUC) and nipple (NIP). The quantity of vitamin C supplied was 12 mg/animal/day. REC and NIP drinkers allowed a major consumption of water than POC and SUC (p<0.05), but REC had a greater waste of water. A similar trend was...

Ecological systems known as ECOSAN allow a complete recovery of almost all nutrients and mineral nutrients in wastewater after a separately appropriate treatment from feces, urine and greywaters contributing to reuse of biol in agriculture and bioenergy through biogas. The research was conducted in the retreat house El Milagro, located at 32 ½ Km of the Lima - Huarochirí highway in the Lurín river basin. The retreat house has an ecological sanitation system built in 2007. The blackwaters (mixture of feces, urine and toilet water) come from 15 toilets with an average flow of 362.5 liters per week. The agricultural wastes were composed of cavy manure and corn plant waste. Cavy manure was collected from the cavy farm (about 200 cavies) and corn plant wastes were collected from the fields of crops. Semi-continuous load of the biodigester was done every seven days and consisted of a mixtur...

Wetlands are fragile, unique and important ecosystems that harbour great biodiversity. However, mammalian diversity in wetlands along the Peruvian coast is poorly known. We present data on the diversity and abundance of small mammals from four wetlands located on the central Peruvian coast: Albufera de Medio Mundo, Pantanos de Villa Wildlife Refuge, Ensenada San Antonio, and Caucato. We used conventional traps to survey rodents and mist nets combined with acoustic recording methods to survey bats. Our sampling effort totalled 4651 traps/night, 145 nets/night, and 48 hours/detector. We recorded 5 native species of rodents, 3 non-native rodents, 12 species of bats, and one marsupial. The rodent Akodon mollis and the bats Nyctinomops laticaudatus and N. macrotis are the first records for the department of Lima. The wild guinea pig is distributed along the central and southern Peruvian coast...
