Perú ha introducido una ley para promover el uso de biocombustibles con el objetivo de aumentar el empleo y fortalecer el desarrollo agrícola. El negocio del biodiesel en el Perú básicamente está limitado a la producción del biodiesel de palma aceitera empleándolo para el aumento de producción del diésel o para la exportación. El empleo del biodiesel directamente como combustible tiene muchas limitaciones debido a su composición de metil esteres de cadena larga que a bajas temperaturas cristalizan generando problemas en los motores.
