The objective of this work was to compare different approaches that allow a better characterization of the environmental quality using benthic macroinvertebrates as indicators in rivers of the southwestern highlands. The study was developed with data from the hydrobiology monitoring of the Quellaveco Project between the years 2013-2015, with which we obtained quality indices (ABI, EPT, IMEERA and SVAP), community structure indices (Shannon, Simpson, N1 of the Hill and Pielou series) and functional diversity indices (richness, diversity, dissimilarity and functional equity, and Rao’s Q). The results of the multivariate analyzes showed that the rates of functional diversity, Simpson’s index and IMEERA have significant representativeness in the study units. We concluded that functional diversity indices can be alternative to traditional and environmental quality indices, in addition to ...

In 14 women with cervical factor infertility functional postcoital tests preovulatory 30 days, with accurate counts of spermatozoa in mucus cervicaI and intrauterine contents were made. The values are compared with the breasts of 19 women, multiparous. A normal patient and two infertile were followed with serial through a full cycle. Exact quantification of mucus crystallization, made by a new method, proved to be a good criterion for evaluating the cervical penetrability. A intracervical level infertile group results were not significantly different from controls; a slight decrease of mobile sperm directional no practical value. By contrast, intrauterine level in infertile sperm group were detected in only 7 of the 30 cases with very low concentrations; in the control group were 18 of 19 cases. It emphasizes the value of intrauterine sperm count, much higher than intracervical tests. Th...

An initial ground validation of the Integrated Multisatellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) Day-1 product from March 2014 to August 2015 is presented for the tropical Andes. IMERG was evaluated along with the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) against 302 quality-controlled rain gauges across Ecuador and Peru. Detection, quantitative estimation statistics, and probability distribution functions are calculated at different spatial (0.1°, 0.25°) and temporal (1 h, 3 h, daily) scales. Precipitation products are analyzed for hydrometeorologically distinct subregions. Results show that IMERG has a superior detection and quantitative rainfall intensity estimation ability than TMPA, particularly in the high Andes. Despite slightly weaker agreement of mean rainfall fields, IMERG shows better characterization of gauge observations when separatin...

The physicochemical and biological indices have been used in isolation; if the parameters of these indices were applied in an integrated manner, they would bring together in a single measure the functional and structural variability of the biotic and abiotic components of water quality. The aim of this study was to build a comprehensive water quality index. Eleven sampling points were selected considering different degrees of agro-industrial intervention. 21 abiotic variables and 27 biological metrics were measured. Macroinvertebrates were quantitatively collected and identified to family taxonomic level. Using Principal Component Analysis, after standardization and exclusion of uncorrelated variables (VIF ≤ 10), the abiotic gradient was determined, which represented the abiotic variables that explained the disturbances in the water; with the abiotic gradient and the biological metrics...

Currently, the criteria to air quality assessment are analyzed independently, leaving aside the systemic approach of the environment, where air quality is influenced and controlled by many types of factors, where several parameters interact and mutually restrict each other for that reason a higher evaluation system is proposed by Grey Clustering analysis based on fuzzy logic, which takes into account the high degree of uncertainty present in the environment. The methodological proposal will assess the quality of air in Lima Metropolitana. In this work, we apply Center-point triangular whitenization weight functions (CTWF) method, where it will be demonstrated that the proposed model is exact, comparable and applicable. The monitoring data on each city of Lima Metropolitana were obtained from National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru – Senamhi. The CTWF method was applied us...

This study assessed the morphometric and functional characteristics of oocytes from 10 native cows to the Ecuadorian Andes, collected by transvaginal follicular aspiration (OPU) and oocytes collected post mortem (PM) from abattoir ovaries. For this purpose, 1157 cumulus-oocyte complexes (CCOs) of the OPU group (n=271) and PM group (n=886) were recovered in 10 repetitions per group by follicular aspiration at 90 mm Hg pressure and classified as A, B or C, according to the characteristics of the cytoplasm and cumulus cells. The activity of the enzyme glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) was determined as an indicator of follicular growth and maturation and the integrity of the plasma membrane by staining the CCOs with cresyl brilliant blue (BCB +) and trypan blue, respectively. The size (diameter and volume) of the oocytes was evaluated using CaptaVisio® software v. 5.1. The data were...
