Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) is the primary diagnostic tool used in evaluating acute Trauma Brain Injury (TBI). Single-photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) is been used in TBI, with better results in brain functional evaluation than CT or MRI. Relationship between CT and SPECT after TBI was studied, but neurocognitive status is not included. Patients may have neurocognitive impairment with none or few abnormalities in structural images from CT. Material and Methods: Twenty patients between 16 and 60 years old with mild or moderate trauma brain injury were studied. CT scan, brain SPECT and neuropsychological evaluation were made at admission. Obtained data was matched. Results: CT scan and SPECT were abnormal in 16 and 19 patients. CT scan showed 15 brain lesions and SPECT 29 brain lesions. All patients with neurocognitive impairment had an abnormal SPECT. Discussion:...

Intelligence is a construct of notable impact in our sociocultural context, related to a wide range of conceptual and operational definitions which originate positions that highlights cognitive and abstract elements and emotional and social skills, as well was perspectives that are focused on processes underlying the intelligent performance, such as in the case of executive functions (EFs), which are configured as cognitive processes that make it possible the self-regulation (Miyake & Friedman, 2012). Similarly, there are approaches that give intelligence a relevant and predictive role of school performance, an aspect strengthened by the psychometric perspective, where the concept of intelligence has been closely linked to learning. In this line, we also find the classical perspective of crystallized Intelligence of Cattell (1943), which refers to the knowledge acquired through educa...

Psychiatry is entering a molecular era in such a way that will be possible to integrate in a scientific manner the genetic expression with brain development and the clinical manifestation of behavior. Synaptic proteomics and molecular genetics will permit the identification of functional roles of proteins at the synaptic level and of susceptibility genes for mental diseases. Psychopharmacology is going to offer faster and more selective treatments for mental disorders fostered by the manipulation of molecular targets at the intraneuronal level. The serotonin system is just a good example of the molecular complexity of the brain and the progress in biological psychiatry.

Sagittal craniosynostosis is the premature closure of the sagittal suture, causing functional and structural alterations. The treatment is surgical, and there are currently various techniques, which require planning and training to achieve optimal results. We present the case of a 1-year-old male with abnormal anteroposterior growth of the skull, indicating brain tomography without contrast, showing sagittal synostosis. Surgical planning of the technique to be developed is carried out using a real-scale personalized 3D model. The patient progresses well and is discharged. Finally, essential 3D cloning technology for neurosurgical education and development allows access to high-precision, low-cost tactile models that improve the quality of craniosynostosis management.

The coexistence of hippocampal sclerosis with a potentially epileptogenic extra hippocampal injury is known as dual pathology, and presents a challenge to resection surgery strategies in cases of drug-resistant epilepsy. We present a case of drug-resistant focal epilepsy associated with dual pathology (left hippocampal sclerosis and left frontal gliosis), treated by means of direct cortical electrical stimulation and intraoperative electrocorticography with good short-term results.
