This article contains an analysis of the Spanish translation of Mother Camp, Esther Newton’s ethnography, which was initially published in 1972. The 2016 translation by Belbel Bullejos and Uría constitutes a corpus that lends itself to an exploration of the limits of the translation of gender as a relational category. In the Spanish version of this ethnographic text, several equivalents proposed for identity categories point to incommensurability among various signifiers related to bodies, sexuality, and gendered life experiences. Moreover, different domesticating translation strategies adapted for Peninsular Spanish readers contribute to the Spanish translation reading like a fiction/non-fiction hybrid text. The selected strategies mask the temporally and geographically bound representation of sex/gender dissent and the experimental innovations of Newton’s ethnographic discourse.

La presente investigación propone analizar la vivencia y construcción de las masculinidades de un grupo de Drag Queens peruanas, quienes son personas que nacieron como hombres, se identifican como hombres gais y realizan una caracterización para un show nocturno. Este es un estudio cualitativo con un enfoque fenomenológico descriptivo. Para ello, se realizaron siete entrevistas semi-estructuradas para explorar la construcción de sus masculinidades a lo largo de las distintas etapas de la vida y tomando en cuenta la influencia que ejerce el Dragqueenismo en este proceso. El análisis de los resultados fue estructurado en tres áreas principales: a) Significado del género y de las masculinidades, b) Vivencia de ser distintos desde pequeños y c) ¿El Dragqueenismo como factor liberador del modelo hegemónico? This article explores the intersections of gender and power in the Peruvian Andes where local populations are affected by large-scale mining operations framed within extractivist and patriarchal structures. Aiming to develop an ethnographic reflection on queerness in research the study highlights the challenges of negotiating multiple positionalities through the lens of qualitative fieldwork experience. The article reflects on the methodological strategies employed to address tensions and patriarchal power dynamics in the field, offering new perspectives on ethnographic research in regions where the control of bodies and territories is contested due to mining activity.

Jaime Manrique’s book, Eminent Maricones (1999), is an autobiographical text that also includes the lives of other famous writers such as Manuel Puig, Reinaldo Arenas and Federico García Lorca, because they all share the queer identity to which the novel’s title refers. This text goes beyond recounting the experiences that Jaime Manrique has with these famous Hispanic writers: it also reveals the reality of the LGBTQ+ community in Latin America and the United States and how they, despite the fact of being famous, did not escape the tyrannical heteronormative society back then. En la traductología, los estudios de género se pueden comprender como un trabajo investigativo y crítico frente a las estructuras de poder que subordinan las posiciones contranormativas. A través de esta obra, Iván Villanueva-Jordán busca recuperar la complejidad semiótica del texto audiovisual. En ese sentido, propone un enfoque multimodal para analizar la configuración narrativa de teleficción contemporánea. Este modelo analítico atiende a la dimensión discursiva de los textos audiovisuales que representan lo queer y las diversidades sexuales.

Based on a review of the figure of James S. Holmes as a pioneer of contemporary translation studies, this introductory article identifies some critical aspects of reflection on queerness in translated cultural artifacts. To do so, the article is divided into three sections drawing from theoretician Alberto Mira’s concept of “unsubmissive look” (mirada insumisa) to recognize queer trajectories in translation studies from its disciplinary inception to the emergence of gender approaches to the research articles gathered in this special issue. Disinformation is currently one of Europe's greatest challenges. In the past years, the European continent in general and, more precisely, the European Union have been suffering from various disinformation campaigns: such as the one that led to Brexit; the parallel health and disinformation pandemic; or the hybrid propaganda strategy following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. El objetivo de la presente investigación ha sido elaborar un Plan de Marketing para orientar la gestión del negocio “Shoees Queens”. Fue una investigación no experimental – descriptiva y de enfoque mixto. Se trabajó con una muestra de 113 clientes habituales y una muestra de 395 seguidores de las redes sociales.
