This paper constitutes an analysis of the so called new information technologies and communication, based on the main documents drafted due to its appearance, but mainly on those daily-handled public concepts that they themselves have generated, identified as ‘imaginary meanings’ —in Castoriadis's sense—. The article begins discussing some of the particular meanings given to new technologies in relation to social temporality, and concludes suggesting a matrix of social imaginaries, from which these meanings seem to originate and function. In this epystemologycal exercise, manifold perspectives on which it is not deepen are left open, leaving space for further discussion.

The seminal parameters analyzed in semen (concentration, motility, morphology) do not clearly discriminate patients with fertility problems. For this reason it is necessary to search for new markers that willallow us to correlate the cause of male factor infertility with the likelihood of achieving a pregnancy reaching term. In recent years much research has focused on the molecular area, assessing DNA fragmentation and sperm chromosome aneuploidy, which has led to the term ‘genomic male factor infertility’. At present methodologies allow selection of sperm with less pathology for use in assisted reproduction procedures (ART) including morphological selection of spermatozoa by high magnification (IMSI), columns of annexin-V, and sperm selection by hyaluronic acid binding. This review will detail the usefulness of testing both DNA fragmentation and FISH in sperm as sperm selection tec...

Objectives: To determine whether volumetric ultrasonography (3D, static and dynamic) provides better information than conventional ultrasound (2D) in the assessment of pregnancy before 7 weeks of amenorrhea. Design: Clinical series of cases study. Setting: Instituto Latinoamericano de Salud Reproductiva – ILSAR. Participants: Pregnant women within the fifth and seventh weeks of pregnancy. Interventions: An endovaginal ultrasound was performed to 30 pregnant women between the fifth and seventh weeks of amenorrhea with a GE Volusson Expert 730 using multifrequency endocavitary transductor (3.7-9.3 MHZ), 75% maximum potency in function ‘Early Pregnancy’ without harmonics; test duration was 5-15 minutes. Once the chorionic sac was localized its content was assessed for the yolk sac and the embryo, first using 2D and then static 3D and dynamic 3D (4D). Main outcome measures: Identifica...

Information and communications technologies, known as ICT, have undoubtedly contributed to the development of societies through the multiplication of data processing and storage in everyday relationships. At the same time and notwithstanding, it is not possible to ignore the risks that these have caused, in relation to the lack of security of personal data. Starting from the consideration of the imaginary and the key conceptions so that concepts such as social significance, institution and functions are put into effect, as indicated by Castoriadis, this article highlights the work of Daniel H. Cabrera to understand the imaginary of new technologies, as well as Patrick Flichy’s work on the imaginary of the Internet, based on Ricoeur’s notions of ideology and utopia. Both the new digital technologies and the Internet are the ideal complement characteristic of what is usually called the information society from the point of view of the technological determinism. The examination of these two works of the imaginary in times of globalization through technology is a defense of critical thinking that allows us to understand why in this new century democracy seems to go back to the nineteenth century forms since it has become premise to think of...
