This paper aims to demonstrate the positioning and legitimation of the aesthetic-ideological project of the “new Indian”, theorized by the Cusco’s essayist José Uriel García, based on the intellectual networks that were being configured in the first decades of the 20th century. Our critical historical methodology is based on the analysis of texts whose meanings are in dialogue with the historical moment of their production and with the intellectual field of the period. This article is based on the idea of ​​understanding the artistic narrative of José Uriel García exposed in La Prensa de Argentina, which is based on ideological content of a historical-artistic nature disclosed in telluric ideology essays. From this framework, the objective will be to propose the Crespo style as a national art, developed in the southern Peruvian highlands, through the implementation of educational policies disseminated in the San Antonio Abad University of Cusco (1910-1923) and as an influence of the Argentine thinker Ricardo Red. Estudia los artículos del diario La Prensa de Buenos Aires de José Uriel García entre 1931-1939, a través de sus contactos con intelectuales argentinos en la década de 1930. En ellos se plantea el discurso del arte mestizo como proyecto de identidad nacional, que se divulga en las manifestaciones artísticas y en la profusión del folklore. Asimismo esta propuesta tiene como eje principal la ciudad del Cusco y el sur del Perú. Las reflexiones se entrelazan con los problemas de identidad nacional desde el mestizaje cultural en las propuestas de círculos académicos regionales y la difusión de las manifestaciones culturales a través del Instituto Americano de Arte. La finalidad del trabajo es ampliar la perspectiva del arte mestizo de José Uriel García y su propuesta del arte auténtico en el Perú.

This article raises the idea that the artistic historiography of Cusco (1918-1925) is based on the analysis of Indo-mestizo ideological contents that sought to unite national history through artistic objects. The main objective of this research is to demonstrate that the North American educational policies and curricula in Albert Giesecke's rectory had an influence on Peruvian art studies.
