This research explores sex and discipline-area differences in empathy across theInterpersonal Reactivity Index developed by Davis. A descriptive cross-sectionalstudy was performed with the participation of 680 university students, divided into351 women and 329 men belonging to Physics-Mathematics, Social-Humanisticand Biological-Chemistry areas. The results show sex differences in threedimensions of the inventory with higher scores for women. No differences inrelation to the subject area of the students were observed. There is interactionbetween sex and discipline in the mathematical-physicist women who obtainedhigher scores in Personal Distress than other participants.

This research analyzes the territorial inequalities in morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19 within the Metropolitan Areas of Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción. The data is extracted from the 40th epidemiological report of COVID-19 and for the proxy of the Social Determinants of Health (DSS) 8 variables or social indicators are used from current information sources of the Ministry of Social Development and the National Institute of Statistics. The methodology used contemplates Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Data uni and bi varied, the construction of a DSS Index (IDSS) and the assessment of the morbidity-mortality relationships due to COVID-19 with the IDSS. The process of disaffection in the political activity in Chile and the legal amendments to the electoral propaganda and the financing of campaigns in the country generated that parties and candidates could see social networks as an opportunity of dissemination and adverti- sing through the Internet. However, the practice shows that, despite its manifest importance, the activity has not reached an edge of professionalization yet. This explanatory research depicts the use of digital platforms specifically in four Chilean cities during the 2016 munici- pal election. Based on that information, there will be a critical reflection on the role of the journalist and social communicator in the design of relevant communication strategies in the electoral activity.

The use of a portfolio was introduced in a first-year course at the University of Concepción, Chile to promote competencies of responsibility and reflection on the learning process. In the study participated 86 students out of the 97 in the group. An induction and detailed description of the objectives and methodology was carried out at the beginning of the course. Two summative portfolio evaluations were conducted during the semester, with feedback after the first evaluation. At the end of the course, an 11-item survey was applied using a Likert scale from 1 to 5 points. The averages of the summative evaluations were compared using a non-parametric test for samples in pairs and the perception survey was analysed using descriptive statistics. Esta investigación explora diferencias por sexo y área disciplinar en Empatíamedidas a través del Interpersonal Reactivity Index desarrollado por Davis. Serealiza un estudio descriptivo-transversal con la participación de 680 estudiantesuniversitarios, distribuidos en 351 mujeres y hombres, pertenecientes a las áreasde física y matemáticas, social y humanista, química y biológica. Los resultadosmuestran diferencias de sexo en tres dimensiones del inventario con puntajesmayores para las mujeres. No se observaron diferencias en relación con el áreadisciplinar del estudiantado. Existe interacción entre sexo y área disciplinar en lasmujeres físico-matemáticas, quienes obtuvieron puntajes superiores en PersonalDistress, respecto de los demás participantes.

This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge of students in the fifth year of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas, Concepción, Chile in relation to the most common zoonoses in the country. A questionnaire on general knowledge, etiology, epidemiology, transmission and prevention-control of zoonoses transmitted by dogs and cats was applied. The questionnaire had 90 multiple-choice questions with four distractors and only one correct answer, and the results were grouped in five levels: very good, good, fair, bad and very bad. The results showed that 85% of students scored between 55 and 72 from a maximum of 90 points. The best performance was obtained for etiology (55% were in the level of very good) and the poorest in the category of transmission (50% in the level of fair). El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el nivel de conocimiento de los alumnos de quinto año de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Santo Tomás, sede Concepción, Chile, respecto a las zoonosis más comunes en el país. Se aplicó un cuestionario que recoge información sobre conocimiento general, etiología, epidemiologia, transmisión y prevención-control de zoonosis transmitidas por perros y gatos. El cuestionario constó de 90 preguntas de selección múltiple con cuatro distractores, de respuesta única, y los resultados se agruparon en cinco niveles: muy bueno, bueno, regular, malo y muy malo. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el estado nutricional antropométrico y la presencia de síndrome metabólico en mujeres de la institución de profesores jubilados - comuna San Pedro de la Paz - provincia de Concepción –Chile, Setiembre – Noviembre 2018. La investigación fue no experimental, descriptiva y de enfoque transversal. Objetivo: Evaluar el nivel de orientación empática en alumnos de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Concepción, Chile. Material y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo transversal. Participaron 341 alumnos de un universo de 402 correspondientes a los niveles 1º, 2º, 3º, 4º y 5º de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Concepción (Chile) en 2012, a quienes se les aplicó la Escala de Empatía Médica de Jefferson (EEMJ). The aim of this study was to determine the presence of zoonotic gastrointestinal parasites by coprological examination in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) reared as pets and the role of sex and age. The faeces of 30 ferrets were analysed, 16 [53.3%] from pet stores and 14 [46.7%] from homes in the city of Santiago and Concepción, Chile. Burrows' coprological technique was used for the diagnosis, which allows detecting eggs of protozoan helminths, cysts and trophozoites Three samples (10%) tested positive for protozoa, one for Entamoeba coli, in a 6 month old male from a pet store, and two for Endolimax nana in a 3-month-old female and a 2-year-old male from private homes. This would be the first record for the two species of protozoa commensals in ferrets in Chile, which were probably acquired by the close contact of mustelids with humans.
