This article seeks to identify the rights of Peru over Arica according to the Lima Treaty of 1929. In this international agreement, Peruvian rights are recognized over the pier and its use, the building for the Peruvian customs agency, the terminal station of the railway to Tacna and the free transit right. All of them constitute a potentiality that can be exploited economically and commercially for the benefit of the Macro-South Region of Peru and national interests

The purpose of this work is to estimate the seismic source parameters which result in the Arica's earthquake in 1868 (9.0 Mw) and to simulate the coseismic efects. Seismicity, seismic gaps are assessed to identify borders which not allow the earthquakes propagation (10° - 25° S y 62° - 84° W). Besides, the deformation is calculated by Okada deformation in the same region to determine  the uplift and subsidence produced by the earthquake at the tsunami generation stage. The TUNAMI-F1 model is used  which use the shallow water equations that describe the tsunami propagation. It is important to gather and review some reports, which give in very detail the severe damages in Arica (south of Peru and north of Chile), and New Zealand and Antarctica to correlate what was simulated and reported. As a result, it is obtained that the seismic source had a 12.5 m of slip, 570 km of length and 1...

I introduce an essay that diagnoses the urban, scale and border possibilities and challenges that are developing on the Tacna-Arica border space during the last decade; pointing out the importance of those issues towards the mutual future of Tacna and Arica cities. With this aim, I discuss the concepts of urban, scale, and border from a geographical “extended” point of view and, from there, I elaborate a personal propose to address the border case been studied: a Tacna-Arica border urbanization scale.

This article analyzes the factors influencing the use of digital marketing among women entrepreneurs in Arica. It highlights the growing relevance of digital marketing in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while also identifying barriers such as perceived costs and lack of technological knowledge. The study concludes that a strategic approach is essential to maximize the potential of digital tools and improve sales and customer relationships. Surveys and factorial analysis were conducted to identify five key factors: economic, technological, lack of knowledge, strategy, and cultural. These findings underscore the importance of promoting training and access to resources, enabling women entrepreneurs to fully harness the advantages of digital marketing in their businesses.

We present an ethnographic case study on urban-border reconversion in Arica (Chile), concentrating on the industrial neighborhood of this city. This urban sector today shows contradictory tendencies between an post-industrialism and neoliberal socio-spatial functionality; given a growing combination of public neglect and real estate privatization. We postulate that this contradiction is still pending resolution, although its qualities are generating new inequalities and urban-border imaginary. We discuss all this based on local and regional research, with conceptions of Marxist urbanism.

Migration in southern Peru is determined by a cross-border socioeconomic context that involves Peru, Chile, and Bolivia. This research analyzes academic literature on how southern Peruvian and foreign populations participate in migratory and commercial dynamics within regions characterized by their border condition. An analytical review of academic literature published between 2011-2023 on migratory processes occurring between 1990-2020 was conducted using platforms such as Google Scholar and Scielo. The analysis was structured around three thematic axes: configuration of cross-border migratory networks, articulation between commercial activities and population mobility, and identity construction processes of different migrant groups. The results show that cross-border commercial activity constitutes a persistent historical factor since colonial times, reconfigured after the War of the P...

Since 1929, when the border treaty between Peru and Chile was signed, determining that Tacna would return to Peruvian possession and Arica would continue to be administered by the Chilean government, a common space that was synergistically emerging as one of the most important in the Pacific was broken up. This generated the deterioration of the economy of both regions, which were also aggravated by the contextual conditions and the exposure to major crises present throughout most of the 20th century. The regional analysis technique methodology made it possible to determine the retraction of the dynamics of the Tacna region and the growth of that observed inArica and Parinacota in the 2007-2017 period of analysis, an expansion sustained fundamentally by the cyclical growth of sectors such as mining and government work, which incorporated an important&nb...

The current trends in the 15th region show an ostensible demographic decline of rural areas and a disproportionate urbanization of the coast in detriment of the rural, Aymara and Andean areas. The activation of the Cultural Landscape of Arica and Parinacota project, sponsored by the Regional Government within the PPVP of SUBDERE and promoted by Altiplano Foundation, is an alternative for territorial development in northern Chile. The appreciation as well as the recognition of Arica and Parinacota as the first Andean Cultural Landscape of Chile is an important goal that will boost regional development. The conceptual, methodological and operational structure of the region as a Cultural Landscape could result in several benefits: enhance its innovative image, improve the relationship with the ancestral heritage, integrate the Aymara and Andean communities, generate a visionary culture of the...

The Binational Peru-Chile Cabinet held in July 2019 laid the possibility of broadening theborder space between the two countries, beyond the consolidated area shaped by Tacna andArica. The hypothesis to be tested is that a greater involvement of the contiguous regions ofMoquegua and Tarapaca in bilateral forums and an "expanded vision of the binational borderregion" –southern Peru-northern Chile, will promote mutual benefits for both countries, inspecific areas like tourism, prevention of transnational crimes, cultural, academic andeconomic relations, among others.
