El interés por esta revista radica en que cumplió dos objetivos: por un lado, fue un vehículo de divulgación de artículos científicos entre la comunidad médica; y, por otro, tuvo un fin político en la medida en que dio a conocer las acciones sanitarias del gobierno y colaboró con la construcción política del secretario de salud, el neurocirujano Ramón Carrillo.
