description El objetivo del estudio fue describir las representaciones mentales de mujeres limeñas que hayan experimentado maltrato doméstico por parte de sus exparejas. Por ello, se desarrolló un estudio cualitativo con seis mujeres, quienes atravesaron violencia por parte de sus exparejas; todas pertenecientes a una institución que brinda atención integral para víctimas de la violencia contra la mujer. Los principales resultados engloban los siguientes temas de análisis: historia familiar, perspectiva femenina sobre la sociedad patriarcal, historia de la relación de pareja, representación de la violencia en las relaciones de pareja y valoración positiva de salir de situaciones de violencia. Se halló que las participantes fueron moldeando las representaciones mentales que tenían sobre la violencia contra la mujer, donde inicialmente esta era vista como un suceso normal dentro de relación de pareja, para después ser reconocida como una problemática social en la que se vieron envueltas. Se concluye que el apoyo institucional, junto a factores internos de las participantes, jugaron un papel crucial en esta evolución. El aporte psicológico de esta investigación radica en que esclarece la posibilidad de modificar las representaciones de la violencia, lo cual les permite a las mujeres salir de estas relaciones.

For this reason, a qualitative exam was developed with the participation of six women, who experienced violence from their ex-partners, all belonging to an institution that offers a comprehensive care for the victims of violence against women. The key findings encompass the following themes: family history, the female viewpoint on patriarchal society, romantic partner history, the representation of violence in a romantic relationship and the positive assessment about leaving violent situations. The results show that the participants began to shift the mental representations that they had about violence against women, where initially violence was seen as a normal occurrence within a romantic relationship, to later be recognized as a social problem in which they found themselves involved in. To conclude, the support provided by the institution, along with internal factors of each participant, played a crucial role in this evolution.
