Se elaboraron tres guías de entrevista: una para los adultos mayores y dos para los especialistas que permitieron la triangulación de resultados. Estos muestran la falta de conciencia de enfermedad luego de la recepción del diagnóstico. Asimismo, se evidencia que ellos experimentan la amputación como un castigo. Además, el apoyo familiar percibido favorece la recuperación de los participantes, pues repercute en su fortaleza interna, en la capacidad para producir nuevo conocimiento y en su autonomía.

This study was carried out from a qualitative phenomenological approach. Four men and one woman that belong to a rehabilitation phase; a traumatologist and a psychologist were interviewed. Three semi structured enterview were elaborated: one for the participants and the others for the experts in order to corroborate the information given by the participants. The results show the participant’s lack of disease awareness regarding their diagnosis and that they experienced amputation as a punishment.
