Problemas como la desnutrición, el cambio climático y la degradación del ecosistema están relacionados directamente con el sistema alimentario actual. Dado que la producción de alimentos involucra muchos sistemas y procesos ambientales, el verdadero cambio necesita del apoyo de todos los agentes involucrados en el sistema alimentario. Además, al ser la alimentación una necesidad biológica del ser humano, la Industria Alimentaria se ha convertido en principal proveedor de los alimentos consumidos a nivel mundial y, considerando que para el 2050 se estima un incremento del 60% de la demanda de alimentos, atender la problemática del sistema alimentario actual se vuelve cada vez más relevante para el futuro del planeta y de las generaciones por delante. Es por ello, que se requiere recopilar información sobre la importancia de la sostenibilidad de la Industria Alimentaria que pudiera ayudar a contrarrestar sus impactos negativos en el medio ambiente y la sociedad. El objetivo general del estudio fue analizar la importancia de la sostenibilidad en la Industria Alimentaria. Para ello, se realizó una revisión de literatura con enfoque integrador en donde se concluyó que la sostenibilidad dentro de la Industria Alimentaria tiene la capacidad de brindar beneficios económicos, sociales y medioambientales que contribuyen al desarrollo de un futuro más amable entre la naturaleza y el ser humano.

Problems such as undernutrition, climate change and ecosystem degradation are directly related to the current food system. Since food production involves many environmental systems and processes, real change needs the support of all actors involved in the food system. Moreover, as food is a biological need of human beings, the food industry has become the main supplier of food consumed worldwide and, considering that by 2050 the demand for food is expected to increase by 60%, attending the problems of the current food system is becoming increasingly relevant for the future of the planet and the generations to come. Therefore, it is necessary to gather information about the importance of sustainability in the food industry that may help to counteract its negative impacts on the environment and society. The general objective of the study was to analyze the importance of sustainability in the food industry.
