Materiales y métodos: “Se llevó a cabo un estudio transversal analítico con la participación de 389 estudiantes de medicina matriculados en el primer semestre de 2023 en la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego,” pertenecientes a diferentes ciclos de estudio. “Se aplicó un cuestionario para evaluar tanto la conciencia ambiental como los conocimientos sobre enfermedades respiratorias.” Resultados: La prevalencia de un buen nivel de conciencia ambiental fue del 23,65%, mientras que el buen nivel de conocimientos en enfermedades respiratorias alcanzó un 36,25%. Se encontraron asociaciones significativas en los grupos con buen y mal nivel de conocimientos de enfermedades respiratorias con variables como la edad (22,15 ± 2,83 vs 21,39 ± 3,44; p = 0,026), el área de estudios clínicas (64,54% vs 40,32%; p = 0,001) y el score de conciencia ambiental (48,28 ± 4,09 vs 46,69 ± 5,65; p = 0,001). La proporción de estudiantes con buen nivel de conciencia ambiental fue mayor entre aquellos con un buen nivel de conocimientos de enfermedades respiratorias en comparación con los que tenían un mal nivel (30,50% vs 19,76%; p = 0.017). Además, el análisis de regresión lineal reveló una clara tendencia positiva entre el score de conciencia ambiental y el score de conocimientos de enfermedades respiratorias (R2 lineal = 0,038). Conclusiones: Los resultados sugieren que los estudiantes de medicina con mayor conciencia ambiental también poseen un mayor conocimiento sobre enfermedades respiratorias. Esto destaca la importancia de fomentar la conciencia ambiental entre los estudiantes de medicina para mejorar su comprensión y manejo de estas afecciones

Materials and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out with the participation of 389 medical students enrolled in the first semester of 2023 at the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego, belonging to different study cycles. A questionnaire was applied to assess both environmental awareness and knowledge about respiratory diseases. Results: The prevalence of a good level of environmental awareness was 23.65%, while the good level of knowledge on respiratory diseases reached 36.25%. Significant associations were found in the groups with good and poor level of knowledge of respiratory diseases with variables such as age (22.15 ± 2.83 vs 21.39 ± 3.44; p = 0.026), area of clinical studies (64.54% vs 40.32%; p = 0.001) and environmental awareness score (48.28 ± 4.09 vs 46.69 ± 5.65; p = 0.001). The proportion of students with a good level of environmental awareness was higher among those with a good level of respiratory disease knowledge compared to those with a poor level (30.50% vs 19.76%; p = 0.017). In addition, linear regression analysis revealed a clear positive trend between environmental awareness score and respiratory disease knowledge score (linear R2 = 0.038). Conclusions: The results suggest that medical students with higher environmental awareness also possess higher respiratory disease knowledge.
