La poblacion estuvo constituida mujeres y varones atendidos en los Servicios de Gastroenterología y Cirugía Oncológica del Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta EsSalud La Libertad, durante el periodo 01 de Enero del 2017 – 31 Enero 2020, en el que se incluyeron a 196 pacientes según criterios de selección, de los cuales 98 pacientes fueron los casos quienes tenían diagnóstico de cáncer gástrico y 98 pacientes sin diagnóstico de cáncer gástrico. RESULTADOS: El promedio de edad y la frecuencia de sexo masculino, antecedente familiar y epigastralgia fueron significativamente mayores en el grupo con cáncer gástrico (p<0.05); la frecuencia de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 en pacientes con cáncer gástrico fue de 16%, la frecuencia de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 en pacientes sin cáncer gástrico fue de 6%, la Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 es factor de riesgo para cáncer gástrico con un Odds ratio de 2.99 el cual fue significativo (p<0.05); en el análisis multivariado las variables edad avanzada, antecedente familiar, epigastralgia y diabetes fueron factores de riesgo para cáncer gástrico. CONCLUSIÓN: Existe asociación de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 con Cáncer Gástrico. En cuanto a limitaciones en este estudio se evitaron los sesgos de información, ya que se utilizaron historias clínicas para la recolección de datos. |

MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational, retrospective, analytical study of cases and controls was carried out. The population consisted of women and men treated in the Gastroenterology and Oncological Surgery Services of the Hospital Virgen de la Puerta EsSalud La Libertad, during the period January 1, 2017 - January 31, 2020, in which 196 patients was include according to selection criteria, of which 98 patients were the cases who had a diagnosis of gastric cancer and 98 patients without a diagnosis of gastric cancer. RESULTS: The mean age and the frequency of male gender, family history and epigastric pain were significantly higher in the group with gastric cancer (p<0.05); the frequency of Diabetes mellitus type 2 in patients with gastric cancer was 16%, the frequency of Diabetes mellitus type 2 in patients without gastric cancer was 6%, diabetes mellitus type 2 is a risk factor for gastric cancer with an OR of 2.99 which was significant (p< 0.05); in the multivariate, the variables advanced age, family history, epigastric pain and diabetes were risk factors for gastric cancer. CONCLUSION: There is an association of type 2 diabetes mellitus with Gastric Cancer.
