Se utilizó una ficha de recolección de datos donde se recopilo el género; la edad; el nivel de ansiedad, mediante el Test de Dibujos de Venham; el tipo de comportamiento, mediante la Escala de Frankl y el nivel del dolor, mediante Escala del Dolor Facial – Revisada. Para los resultados se utilizó la prueba U de Mann-Whitney y el programa estadístico de software libre RStudio. Resultados: Se evidenció que en el grupo de realidad virtual el promedio de dolor fue de 1.90 ± 2.00, encontrándose una diferencia altamente significativa con el grupo control (p = 0.007). Asimismo, se encontró diferencias altamente significativas en el grupo de mujeres (p = 0.003), en el grupo de niños sin ansiedad (p = 0.047) y finalmente en el grupo de niños conducta levemente negativa (p = 0.021). Conclusión: La utilización de la realidad virtual si es efectiva para disminuir el dolor durante la administración de anestesia local en odontopediatría

Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional experimental study involving 78 patients aged 6 to 9 years who attended the dental center of the Antenor Orrego Private University. A data collection form was used where gender was collected; age; the level of anxiety, through the Venham Drawings Test; the type of behavior, using the Frankl Scale and the level of pain, using the Facial Pain Scale – Revised. The Mann-Whitney U test and the free software statistical program RStudio were used for the results. Results: It was evident that in the virtual reality group the average pain was 1.90 ± 2.00, finding a highly significant difference with the control group (p = 0.007). Likewise, highly significant differences were found in the group of women (p = 0.003), in the group of children without anxiety (p = 0.047) and finally in the group of children with slightly negative behavior (p = 0.021).
