La muestra se conformó por 214 estudiantes seleccionados método no probabilístico por conveniencia. Los instrumentos aplicados fueron; el Test de Rosemberg que midió la autoestima y la ficha clínica de la Escala Visual Análoga (EVA) de 0 – 10 que midió la percepción de la sonrisa. La relación entre las variables fue evaluada mediante el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman (Rho), con un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: Si existe relación entre la percepción de la sonrisa y la autoestima en estudiantes de estomatología de 18 a 23 años de edad. Conclusión: Se concluye que, a menor autoestima del estudiante de estomatología, mayor percepción de la sonrisa.

Materials and methods: The research was prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive and observational, with a correlational methodology and nonexperimental design. The sample was made up of 214 students selected by a nonprobabilistic method for convenience. The applied instruments were; the Rosenberg Test that measured self-esteem and the clinical record of the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) from 0 to 10 that measured the perception of the smile. The relationship between the variables was evaluated using Spearman's correlation coefficient (Rho), with a significance level of 5%. Results: The results allow us to conclude that there is a relationship between the perception of the smile and self-esteem in dentistry students from 18 to 23 years of age.
