Para la recolección de datos se utilizaron dos instrumentos, el primero para medir la funcionalidad del adulto mayor y el segundo para medir el nivel de depresión de los adultos mayores. Los resultados evidenciaron que el 94.7% de los adultos mayores presentaron una funcionalidad conservada o una limitación funcional leve, mientras que el 3.5% mostró una limitación funcional moderada y el 1.8% una limitación funcional severa. En cuanto al nivel de depresión, el 63.7% no presentó síntomas depresivos, el 32.2% evidenció depresión leve y el 4.1% manifestó depresión establecida. En conclusión, los hallazgos revelaron una asociación significativa entre la capacidad funcional y el nivel de depresión. Se observó que, a mayor grado de limitación funcional, mayor fue la presencia de síntomas depresivos. Esta relación resultó estadísticamente significativa mediante la prueba chi-cuadrado (χ² = 138.47; p < 0.001).

The study is descriptive-correlational in nature, and the sample consisted of 171 older adults. Two instruments were used for data collection: the first to assess the functional capacity of older adults, and the second to evaluate their level of depression. The results showed that 94.7% of older adults had either preserved functionality or mild functional limitation, while 3.5% exhibited moderate functional limitation and 1.8% had severe functional limitation. Regarding the level of depression, 63.7% showed no depressive symptoms, 32.2% presented mild depression, and 4.1% had established depression. In conclusion, the findings revealed a significant association between functional capacity and the level of depression. It was observed that the greater the degree of functional limitation, the higher the presence of depressive symptoms.
