Determinar la asociación entre el antecedente de tabaquismo y la severidad de reinfección por COVID-19 en pacientes atendidos de enero a diciembre 2021 en el Hospital Regional Cayetano Heredia, Piura. Material y métodos: Estudio observacional, analítico, de diseño cohorte retrospectivo con recolección de datos secundarios mediante revisión de historias clínicas. Se realizó el análisis descriptivo y bivariado del hábito tabáquico previo o actual según las características de la muestra, tales como la presencia de comorbilidades, valores de laboratorio, antecedente de vacunación, estancia hospitalaria, registro de ingreso a unidad de cuidados intensivos y fallecimiento. Resultados: Se evaluaron 376 historias clínicas de pacientes con diagnóstico de reinfección por COVID-19 en el Hospital Regional Cayetano Heredia. Según la cohorte con antecedente de tabaquismo, se encontró diferencia estadísticamente significativa (p < 0.05) con respecto al antecedente de vacunación (17.8%), Dímero D elevado (76.8%), ingreso a unidad de cuidados intensivos (98.4%) y fallecimiento (38.9%). En el análisis multivariado se halló que aquellos pacientes con hábito tabáquico previo o actual presentaron un mayor riesgo de ingreso a la unidad de cuidados intensivos (RRa 1.99, IC95% 1.70 a 2.35, valor de p < 0.001) y fallecimiento (RRa 1.86, IC95 1.30 a 2.66, valor de p = 0.001). Conclusiones: Se encontró asociación entre el antecedente de tabaquismo con el ingreso a unidad de cuidados intensivos y fallecimiento por reinfección COVID- 19 en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Regional Cayetano Heredia durante el año 2021 |

A descriptive and bivariate analysis of previous or current smoking habits was performed according to the characteristics of the sample, such as the presence of comorbidities, laboratory values, vaccination history, hospital stay, record of admission to the intensive care unit, and death. Results: A total of 376 medical records of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 reinfection at the Cayetano Heredia Regional Hospital were evaluated. According to the cohort with a history of smoking, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was found with respect to vaccination history (17.8%), elevated D-dimer (76.8%), admission to the intensive care unit (98.4%) and death (38.9%).
