La recolección de datos se realizó mediante instrumentos validados que midieron el nivel de conocimiento y la adherencia terapéutica; obteniendo datos que fueron analizados y procesados para determinar frecuencias, asociaciones y correlación entre las variables estudiadas. Se encontró que el 53.3% de pacientes tuvieron nivel medio de conocimiento y el 46.7% nivel alto; asimismo el 83.3% de pacientes con diabetes mellitus obtuvieron un grado medio de adherencia terapéutica, 15.3% grado alto y solo 1.3% tuvieron grado bajo. Se concluye que existe mayor adherencia terapéutica en el grupo con alto nivel de conocimiento que tuvo medio, no existiendo correlación significativa, existiendo diferencia significativa entre grupos p=0.015 (p<0.05) entre el nivel de conocimiento y el de adherencia terapéutica
