La población de estudio estuvo constituida por 136 pacientes con pancreatitis aguda severa; las cuales fueron divididas en 2 grupos: con fallo de órganos o sin él; se calculó el odds ratio y la prueba chi cuadrado. Resultados: La frecuencia de colesterol HDL disminuido en pacientes con pancreatitis aguda severa y fallo de órganos fue 35%. La frecuencia de colesterol HDL disminuido en pacientes con pancreatitis aguda severa y sin fallo de órganos fue 19%. El colesterol HDL disminuido es factor de riesgo para fallo de órganos en pancreatitis aguda severa con un odds ratio de 2.3 el cual fue significativo (p<0.05). En el análisis multivariado se verifica la significancia del riesgo para las variables HDL disminuido, hemoconcentración y PCR elevada respecto al desenlace fallo de órganos en pancreatitis aguda severa. Conclusiones: El colesterol HDL disminuido es factor de riesgo para fallo de órganos en pacientes con pancreatitis aguda en el Hospital Belén de Trujillo

The study population consisted of 136 patients with severe acute pancreatitis; which were divided into 2 groups: with organ failure or without it; the odds ratio and the chi square test were calculated. Results: The frequency of decreased HDL cholesterol in patients with severe acute pancreatitis and organ failure was 35%. The frequency of decreased HDL cholesterol in patients with severe acute pancreatitis and without organ failure was 19%. Decreased HDL cholesterol is a risk factor for organ failure in severe acute pancreatitis with an odds ratio of 2.3 which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the significance of the risk for the decreased HDL variables, hemoconcentration and elevated CRP was verified with respect to the outcome of organ failure in severe acute pancreatitis.
