El objetivo principal de este trabajo es diseñar una nueva infraestructura para el Mercado Central del Centro Histórico de Trujillo que reúna las condiciones necesarias para el funcionamiento eficiente de la actividad comercial, considerando que, a través del desarrollo del diagnóstico situacional se encontró que la actual infraestructura presenta deficiencias debido a su antigüedad y que no hay registros de que haya recibido mantenimiento adecuado desde su inauguración. A su vez, a nivel de análisis interior del mercado, se detectó que el ancho de los pasadizos no es suficiente para que las personas circulen con comodidad, además que el ingreso hacia los puestos no cumple con medidas mínimas. El desarrollo del proyecto se basa en análisis de casos, teniendo en consideración proyectos similares; además, con el desarrollo de una nueva programación e infraestructura se busca satisfacer las necesidades espaciales y funcionales de los usuarios del Mercado Central.
