This article presents an analysis of this genre in its two variants: the tondero de los criollos, sung and accompanied by guitars and cajón, and the tondero de banda, played by the banda de músicos according to the principles established by the estilo de banda. I will begin by explaining the stylistic aspects of each group to outline a definition of the genre that considers its duality. Then I will analyze the main characteristics of each variant to enter into a musical analysis that compare the coincidences and differences of both variants. I finish with a final reflection.En Piura, el tondero es la danza tradicional y la banda, el conjunto instrumental más representativo. Este artículo presenta un análisis de este género en sus dos variantes: el tondero de los criollos, cantado y con acompañamiento de guitarras y cajón; y el tondero de banda, interpretado por la banda de músicos según los patrones establecidos por el estilo de banda. Empezaré explicando los aspectos estilísticos de cada grupo para esbozar una definición del género que considere su dualidad. Seguidamente, analizaré las características principales de cada variante para entrar en un análisis musical que contrapone las coincidencias y diferencias de ambas variantes.
